Applefest: More entertainment than the Morris Dancers can shake a stick at!

Food & Drink | Staycation | What's On

The first Saturday in October, the annual Tenbury Applefest, is nearly upon us. This is going to be one of the first big events around Tenbury since the pandemic and we look forward to providing an Event to raise the spirits (or cider glasses) of those who come along.

We’ve got entertainment, we have apples galore and we have animals, classic cars, food, drink and crafts. What more could you ask for on a day out?

You can have an encounter will the animals brought along by Trevor Hill and ferret racing! There will also be face painting and the Medieval Magician as well as Corn Dolly making demonstrations, willow weaving and the work of Gillian Talbot who creates beautiful illustrations of apples and many other items.

The interest in classic vehicles continues so we shall have a selection of vehicles from owners local to Tenbury.
Entertainment throughout the day will include Tenbury Teme Valley Band, Pearl Lake Ukelele Group, Leominster Morris Dancers, Blue Moon, Cool Moves Dance and the Bromyard Town Crier.

The Apple Marquee will show over 300 varieties of Apples, pears and quinces, provided by local supplier and sponsor, F P Matthews Ltd If you have apples that you’re not sure of their variety you can match to those on display.

Appleteme are on hand to press apples into delicious juice to take home and invite you to bring along washed apples (approx. one carrier bag = 1 litre of juice) and clean containers and watch your apples being turned into juice to enjoy after the Event. We have to limit this to sensible quantities of apples please!

The usual food, drink and craft stands will be available for those who want to shop, dare we say it, ready for Christmas, and there will also be a licensed bar area and a wide selection of food to eat on the day.

Without sponsors an event like Applefest could not be possible so we extend our sincere thanks to all of our 2021 Sponsors, many of whom support us year on year and help to make the Event what it is.

We hope that you will enjoy the fabulous window displays by the town’s retailers in the run up to Saturday 2 October. Judging will take place in the week beforehand with the winners being presented with their certificates on Friday 1 October. Sponsors, Kerry’s, have the pleasure of judging the window displays which will be ready for judging by 28 September. We will start sharing them through social media as and when they happen.

New for 2021 is the People’s Choice prize for the best windows. Sponsored by Robinsons of Tenbury the date for this will extend until 5 October. This will give locals and visitors to Applefest the opportunity to join in with the judging.
Please come and have a look at the windows and support our Independent retailers.

David Patrick, Chair of Tenbury Applefest Association, says “Yet again we are offering a wide variety of activities, entertainment and displays for you to enjoy. We are confident that Applefest 2021 will provide a great day out for all of the family whatever the weather.”

Admission to the fun packed day is still just £4.00 with accompanied children under 16, free.

Gates open at 10.00 a.m. on Saturday 2 October 2021.

We respectfully ask that anyone who is showing symptoms of CoVid remain at home this year and follow the updates on Facebook.
