Great Malvern Christmas Festival Cancelled

Organisers of the Great Malvern Christmas Festival have reluctantly taken the collective decision to cancel the outdoor elements of the Christmas Festival event scheduled for Saturday 27 November 2021.

There will still be a few indoor festive activities taking place across the town:

– Santa’s Grotto at Great Malvern Library – 10am-3:45pm
– The animatronic Polar bear will now be at Great Malvern Library for all three time slots
– The Green Winter Fair in The Lyttelton Rooms
– Augmented Reality ‘Santa Needs You Trail’ Trail
– Christmas Wreath Window Trail
– Great Malvern Priory Church will also be open from 10am from 4pm and hope to continue with a variety of activities and music performances

And of course, you can still come into town to start your Christmas shopping in a great selection of independent shops. Find out more here.

Storm Arwen is forecast to bring windy weather on Friday night into Saturday and with wind speeds currently expected to gust up to 50mph on Saturday, the decision to cancel all outdoor activities including the arts and crafts market, and 6pm lights switch-on has been made in the interest of public safety. Unfortunately due to town centre being positioned high up on the eastern slopes of the Malvern Hills, it’s just too risky. Along with the very old trees which lose their branches in high winds, it just isn’t safe to hold the event with the predicted weather forecast. See the weather warning from the Met Office here.

However, the good news is that Father Christmas will still be opening his grotto in Great Malvern Library, from 10am until 4pm (last entry 3:45pm) along with the animatronic Polar Bear and a number of exciting workshops to take part in.

Great Malvern Priory Church will also be open from 10am from 4pm and hope to continue with a variety of activities and music performances throughout the day; they will, however, be cancelling their Carol Concert at 6pm. Please check their website for updated details.

You can also join Malvern Hills District Council’s augmented reality trail and Malvern Town Council are running a Christmas Wreath competition and trail, please see Malvern Town Council’s website for further details.

We will now be turning on the lights at 6pm on Wednesday 1 December with pantomime stars from Malvern Theatres and the Mayor Cllr Nick Houghton on Belle Vue Island in Great Malvern.
