When we moved into Hanley Mill in August 2015 we had no idea how successful our Holiday Cottages would be or how popular a tourist destination the Teme Valley was, but what surprised us most was how much we have enjoyed running a tourism business and how rewarding our guests experiences are – be it a romantic break, a walking holiday, different generations getting together, a dog friendly get away, so many different people who all want to explore our breathtaking countryside, national trust buildings, fabulous restaurants and pubs, the list is endless. So when we were announced as finalists for the Visit Worcestershire Tourism Awards for Excellence 2019 we were delighted to welcome the judges Mark Martin and Simone Rose to a sunny Hanley Mill. Set in it’s own magical valley comprising 30 acres of mixed fields, apple and damson orchards, woodland, streams, ponds and waterfalls, all of which we are happy to share with guests who stay at one or our two cottages. We also have free range hens providing plenty of eggs, dogs, horses and sheep – a real country experience!
Mill Cottage set next to a waterfall is a 1 bed romantic retreat with private patio and hot tub while Stable Cottage nestles in woodland with private patio and log fired hot tub, sleeping up to 4 guests. Welcome baskets packed with locally sourced home made goodies greet each guest in our 5* luxury accommodation.
Our award category was huge ‘Camping, Glamping, Self-Catering and Holiday Park of the Year’ with amazing finalists who were all credible winners and all we could do was wait until the awards tea at Chateau Impney on October 29th to see who the winner was. We were really excited and nervous at the same time, the whole team at Hanley Mill work really hard and if we were to win, well that would be one for the team! On arrival at Chateau Impney we made our way to the stunning Grand Ballroom and mingled with finalists before being seated for the ceremony to begin. The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement and as the winner of each category was announced the applause was infectious. Mark Martin of One Creative Environments, our judge, made his way to the stage and our moment had arrived, Mike and I looked at each other and held our breath, “and the winner is……. Hanley Mill Self-Catering Cottages” WOW we had done it, we were thrilled, I couldn’t stop smiling which the photos will prove! It was a fantastic feeling and such a great achievement and reward for all the hard work involved in running a successful business, the whole team at Hanley Mill are happy and hard working, this award is special to all of us so thank you so much to Visit Worcestershire and we won’t take our foot of the gas – we will work hard on getting it right again for next year!!!
