Malvern Museum in Abbey Road, Great Malvern, WR14 3ES will be opening for free on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th September 2019, from 10.30 until 5pm on both days. Visit the historic gatehouse building to see the displays of Malvern’s local history.
Malvern Museum contains a wealth of artefacts and information illustrating our rich heritage: from rocks and fossils, and the remains and records of the medieval priory and forest, to the Malvern Water Cure of the Victorian period, and through to the modern day with wartime radar research and the history of the Morgan motor car. A number of activities have been designed for children, including a monkish treasure hunt, dressing-up clothes, and touch-screen puzzles. Besides housing the collection of local history, the museum building is itself a historic monument, originally the medieval gatehouse of the Benedictine priory of Great Malvern, now Grade 2* listed and a Scheduled Ancient Monument. Conservation work over the past eight years has revealed a number of its secrets, allowing a fresh interpretation of its history. Visit the museum on one of the Heritage Days this September and learn more about Malvern’s history and our latest understanding of the story of its medieval gatehouse.
