The Marvellous Malvern Multicolour Fun will be back for its fourth year on Saturday 4th May. The fun run, which is set in the private grounds of ELIM International College in West Malvern, features a 2.5 km cross country course with fantastic views both of the college’s beautiful gardens and across Herefordshire to Hay Bluff and the Black Mountains.

This year there are some exciting changes and a fun theme!

The route has now been redesigned to be 2.5 km long with 1, 2, 3, or 4 laps on offer so it is possible to run, jog or walk 5 km if you are on the ‘Couch to 5k’ journey or complete a full 10k with our new 4th lap!

We also noticed that May the 4th sounds a lot like the start of a famous Star Wars quote, so this year we have a Star Wars theme and are keen for as many people as possible to dress up as their favourite Star Wars character, which should make for some hilarious photos. If the theme is not your thing, you are more than welcome to wear a white t-shirt to help show the brightly-coloured biodegradable powder paints – four paint stations dotted around the course mean that by the end everyone will be a rainbow of colours!

The event is organised by the college and Greenrock Ltd, an event company based in West Malvern who organise events such as a 3,000 mile non-stop ultracycling race across Europe, high altitude bicycle tours in the Himalayas and a cycle sportive on the world-famous Isle of Man TT Mountain Course. Laura Mearns of Greenrock said: “It’s not one of those gruelling mud-fest obstacle races, it’s something for the whole family to enjoy.

This year 5% of net profit is being donated by the organisers to St James’s Primary School in West Malvern to help raise funds for a much needed new playground. Mrs Gemma Martin the head of St James’s School said “St. James’ CE Primary School would like to refurbish their lower playground to make it the very best that it can be for all of the children who attend the school. Due to the school’s location, nestled in to the slopes of the Malvern Hills, flat, open space is limited. Therefore the school would like to develop the space available in the best way possible, incorporating equipment and resources that will promote physical activity, team work and mental wellbeing.”

This is an excellent event to raise funds for your own charity as well and we love to hear news of any fundraising projects.

All entrants will receive sunglasses, a race number, finisher’s medal, certificate and a paper cup of water. Their will be a bespoke pizza van, nice creams, hot and cold snacks and drinks and there will also be a kids area with some fun games. The organisers are keen to involve other local businesses – if this is of interest please contact Joe Mearns at Greenrock on 01684 892 465.

The fun run is open to anyone from five years upwards, all children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult who has also entered. Children under five can either be pushed in a cross-country buggy or carried. There is no charge for spectators and bags of paint to throw at the runners will be available to buy for £2.
