Midsummer Malvern Opening Ceremony and Jazz in the Park – Saturday 25 June 2022

Midsummer Malvern is Malvern Civic Societies annual celebration of Malverns rich history and culture with events running from Saturday 25 June to Sunday 3 July. The programme of events kick off on Saturday 25 June 2022 in Priory Park with an opening ceremony including live jazz music and prize giving. There are a great many events taking place across Midsummer Malvern for history enthusiasts or those wishing to learn more about Malverns past and connect to its rich cultural heritage including guided walks, book signings, talks and exhibitions. From 10:30am to 3pm McCourt Jazz Group with special guest Matt Seddon will play in the Priory Park bandstand. Led by their drummer, Michael, the ensemble met at the Junior Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and were such a hit last year that they have been invited to return. Please bring a picnic, buy an ice cream, get a coffee in the Bistro and spend time in the lovely park listening to jazz spread over 4½ hours. Delicious cakes will be provided by West Malvern WI from 10:30am.

At 11:00am Midsummer Malvern will be officially opened by Malverns Mayor and a welcome speech will be given by society President Dr John Harcourt OBE.

At 11:15am the Civic Society Architectural Award will be given out by the Chairman of the Malvern Hills District Council, Councillor John Michael. This award is given to a new or newly renovated property in Malvern which adds to or enhances Malverns developed environment. The winner of this much respected prize receives a small plaque to display on their building. Previous winners include the Station House at Malvern Link Station in 2020 and Rogers Theatre at Malvern College in 2019.
