A message from the organisers of Upton Jazz Festival

June 2020, and we’re missing you…!

It’s nearly the last weekend in June and we’re missing you. What would we be doing now? We’d be looking anxiously at ticket sales and the weather. We would be checking the venues. We would be stocking up the Jazz Office with cocktail mixers, chilled fizz and canapes (would we really, says Deirdre ??) and we would be explaining that every B and B in or near Upton was booked months ago.

Most of all, we would be looking forward to the music…! So we thought it would be a good thing if we wished you well and sent you some music to listen to whilst we are all unable to meet…and in concert with Longside Radio we can also offer you some great Upton memories…

Look out for and listen to ‘Upton at Home’ on Longside Radio on Sunday 28th June. Our good friend Alun Jones will feature ‘Upton at Home’ with a selection of jazz from regular Upton performers. That’s from 9.00pm to 10.00pm.

Click the links below to enjoy a selection of music:

Dan Cassidy Swing Quartet in 2019
Sauce City Jazz at the Muggery
Alex Clarke with ‘Softly As in a Morning Sunrise’. OK, it’s not at Upton but Alex is a rising star, already a firm favourite Down by the Riverside…and this is a lovely sound.
The Tenement Jazz Band from Edinburgh
Emma Fisk and Hot Club du Nord
Hotsy Totsy with our own Rachel Hayward and the very talented Zoe, Debbie, Isobel and Jen
Mama Shakers
The Sopranos
…and finally, Carl Sinclair. Ten minutes of boogie so you can do your Joe Wicks exercises or just have a cup of tea. After about 4 minutes Carl and the boys offer a rendition of the theme tune for the Festival That Never Was…’Ain’t that a Shame’.

Thank you for your kind messages of support. We will get together in the Autumn and start planning for June 2021. In the meantime, stay safe, hug those in your bubble and enjoy the music.

With love from all at Upton Jazz
