It’s on! Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 June with a town-full of Jazz to keep you busy and entertained.
Ticketed concerts include Ben Holder’s Hot Club Quartet, Jake Leg Jug Band, Sarah Spencer’s Transatlantic Jazz Band, Tenement Jazz Band, Spats Langham playing solo, Moscow Drug Club, Alligator Gumbo, Hot Fingers, Washington Whirligig, and more….
Around town you can enjoy Hotsy Totsy, Dorine de Wit and Tremé; Jeremy Huggett’s Boogie Band; Richard Leach’s Street Band, Swing from Paris, and more, with free entry jazz in pubs and cafes celebrating great local talent.
The 5th Upton Jazz Fringe takes place at the Swan Hotel where anything goes. Upton Jazz Rising Stars with 4 or 5 youth bands including WYJO at a new home in the Baptist Church.
There will be some changes based on previous years feedback – for example the ticketed concerts and bands will be exclusive. There will also be some free to enter jazz on the Friday evening – Muriel at the Muggery is joining in as she did last year. More venues are being invited to join the fun.
It’s £65 for a weekend ticket; a small increase reflecting venue and band costs.
As last year’s festival sold out in weeks. Priority booking will open on 1 December so get your name on the list by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org – that will secure your tickets and that essential Christmas present! Ticket sales will go live in January via the website at a date to be confirmed.
And a big change to tell you about. After 25 years or more Deirdre has retired from active office duty, though staying with us to share her vast experience. So, office, phone numbers, website have all been changed. Rachel has kindly agreed to take on the office management. The email address remains the same so any questions or expressions of delight, or for priority booking please email email@example.com. The new phone number is 07759 342073
The Jazz Fringe at the Swan Hotel has a growing reputation for presenting keen but skilled amateurs, bands on their way up…and something quite different (opera, blues, jazz accordion, acapella). If you know anyone who wants to play, the Fringe programme will start to take shape in Jan/Feb. Email with your story, and some tracks to listen to.
As always, the festival is grateful to their loyal group of stewards who supported last year, quickly coming to terms with changes and making the weekend a success. Some have taken a break during the past couple of years, so please let the festival organisers know your availability for June 2023. Again, it’s firstname.lastname@example.org.
The festival is always looking for help – sponsorship, donations or resource…especially an organiser who can help plan and make the festival a success; maybe someone looking for events management experience. Social media wizardry and photographers welcome too!
