Heritage & Faith Lecture: Malvern’s Benedictine Inheritance
The Friends of Malvern Priory present 2021’s Heritage and Faith Lecture, taking place on Saturday 16 October at 6.30pm.
Professor Joyce Hill will be speaking about ‘Malvern’s Benedictine Inheritance’.
Professor Hill is Emeritus Professor at Leeds University. Her area of expertise is Anglo-Saxon Benedictine Reform and its impact on ecclesiastical and cultural life. We are very fortunate to be having such an eminent speaker and the lecture will appeal to everyone with an interest in Great Malvern Priory.
The foundation of Malvern Priory as a Benedictine community in 1085 was part of the great flowering of Benedictine monasticism that began in the mid-tenth century. The illustrated lecture explores this great Benedictine inheritance, and sets it in the larger context of the monastic history of Anglo-Saxon England, when Benedictine communities were centres of art and learning.
Refreshments (canapes) will be served after the lecture.
Tickets are £10 (or £8 for members of The Friends) and are available from the Friends’ Priory Shop, Malvern Tourist Information Centre and online at TicketSource.
