Event Description

Walk No: MWF97
Helicopter Rescue!
3 miles: allow 3½ hours

The primary purpose of the event is to visit Midlands Air Ambulance air base – meet the medics and hear about the fabulous service they give across the region; see the helicopter, if not out on a call; and tour the facilities. The MAA is funded entirely by voluntary donations and is the charity that the Malvern Walking Festival is supporting this year.

Following the air base tour there will be a 3 mile walk on footpaths in the area between the M5 and the River Avon.

Bring whatever snacks and liquids you will require for the duration of the visit and walk.

Please note that access to the MAA base is only via the M5 northbound, and escape from the base is only by rejoining the M5 Northbound to Junction 7, South Worcester.

Start: 5.30 pm

Meet: in the lorry park at Strensham Northbound services on M5 motorway just after Junc 8 – we will be met there and escorted to the secure air base.
When entering the services ensure that you stay on the left hand lane entering the sign-posted Lorry Park area.
Staying left, enter the slip road in the Lorry park about 50 yards on your left hand side; we are about 25 yards on the right hand side.
Please park in front of the fenced area.
