Event Description

Short of cash in the 1630s, and at odds with Parliament, King Charles I introduced many imaginative methods of raising revenue. One of these was the King’s Thirds. The archaeology of the older Shire Ditch may be obvious; much less obvious are the hidden features of the King’s Thirds on the northern Malvern Hills. Discover where the banks and ditches were created in the 1630s and their history.

At three miles, the walk is not long and three hours is the time allowed. However, it involves climbing up and down steep slopes to see the banks and ditches and has therefore been marked as Strenuous.
