Event Description
We will look at the Precambrian Malverns Complex in Gardiner’s Quarry. There was a fall of some large blocks of rock about 3 years ago and these have exposed some interesting mineralisation. We will then walk along the hillside looking at the geology as reflected in the landscape, traveling as far as Evendine Lane to look at the spring, which is one of a line of springs emerging from the base of the Precambrian. Then we go partly down Evendine Lane and across the fields crossing the Silurian Wyche Formation, Coalbrookdale Formation, Much Wenlock Limestone, Lower Ludlow Shales to the Aymestry Limestone Ridge. This sequence is clearly reflected in the topography. BGS has probably mapped the faults in the area by looking at ridges which are off set and we will see some of these. There are small exposures when we walk along the Aymestry Limestone ridge heading north. Finally there is a climb back up the sequence to emerge near the Kettle Sings Café.
