Mia Hansen-Løve (Bergman Island, Things to Come) explores family bonds, how love has its limits and time passes in this quiet, complex romantic drama.
Sandra is a Parisian interpreter, raising her young daughter alone, while attending to her beloved father, a philosophy professor whose degenerative neurological condition seems likely to force him into care. Then, a chance meeting with an old friend, Clément, sparks off an intense, clandestine affair. Over the course of a year, things develop, repeat and only gradually change in a Paris evocatively captured on 35mm film. Deceptively ordinary, this is a film of beauty and gentle power.
