ALLAN SCHILLER AND JOHN HUMPHREYS (PIANO DUO)
Allan Schiller, one of the UK’s finest pianists, has performed as soloist with every major British orchestra, often under famous conductors (including Sir George Solti, Bernard Haitink and Norman del Mar). John Humphreys has appeared countless times as soloist at prestigious venues in London and across the UK. Last year the Schiller/Humphreys Duo celebrated their 50th anniversary. The concert opens with a jewel by Mozart and continues with two works by Schubert, including one of his most sublime compositions, the Fantasie in F minor. In the centre of the programme will be Poulenc’s very short and quirky Sonata for Four Hands and a rarely-heard piano duo version of John Ireland’s Mai-Dun (an Iron-age fort in Dorset). The penultimate work in their most varied programme is the ever popular and enchanting Mother Goose by Ravel, and the concert ends in Bohemian style with three of Dvorak’s Slavonic Dances. The full programme is:
Mozart Sonata in B flat K358
Schubert 4 Ländler D814
Schubert Fantasie in F minor D940
Poulenc Sonata for Four Hands
Ireland Mai-Dun (arr by composer)
Ravel Mother Goose
Dvorak Three Slavonic Dances Op 46
