SUMMARY:Art Exhibition: The Cut by Shaun Morris (check opening times before travelling)
DESCRIPTION:This October\, Birmingham-based painter Shaun Morris presents ‘The Cut’\, an exhibition of a selection of his paintings of Birmingham and his native Black Country’s canals completed over the last 12 years. The region is well-known for its extensive canal network\, and these paintings bring them to life in unusual and imaginative ways which lean into the traditions of landscape painting with a variety of contemporary approaches. The large paintings\, rich in colour and atmosphere\, evoke a sense of the history of the canals and their role in the industrial revolution\, but also depict the canals as they cut through the ruins of the contemporary post-industrial landscape\, the so-called edgelands and the ‘geography of nowhere’. Here they hide and divide a landscape unseen beneath the colossal motorways of the M5 and M6 overhead that have replaced their use. In other paintings the canals are depicted at night in bold\, almost entirely abstract canvasses that exude a unique air of dislocation and mystery. All welcome. \nExhibition opening times\nMonday\, Tuesday\, Friday: 9am – 5pm\nWednesday: 1pm – 5pm\nThursday: 9am – 1pm\nSaturday: 10am – 3pm

SUMMARY:Dead of Winter (15)
DESCRIPTION:Barb (Emma Thompson)\, the widowed owner of a small fishing tackle store\, sets off on a pilgrimage to Lake Hilda\, in remotest northern Minnesota. This is where she spent her first holiday with her husband (recently deceased) and where she has committed to scattering his ashes. Due to a blizzard\, she gets lost among back roads near the lake and stops for help at an isolated cabin in the woods. Here she finds a young woman\, Leah (Laurel Marsden)\, is being held against her will by a desperate armed couple. The kidnappers\, known only as Purple Lady (Judy Greer) and Camo Jacket (Marc Menchaca) are armed and intent on murder. \nSpurred on by the memory of her husband\, but hours from the nearest town and without any mobile phone reception\, Barb understands that she is the young woman’s only hope of survival. SUMMARY:A Tribute to Sting & The Police Starring The Rozzers
DESCRIPTION:Fronted by Sting look- and sound-a-like Owen James and his band The Rozzers\, A Tribute to Sting & The Police is the most authentic Sting tribute in Europe. The band has played all over the world for several years and now they’re on their biggest-ever UK tour. \nThe Police were arguably the biggest band on the planet between 1977 and 1983\, scoring 5 number one hits on both sides of the Atlantic. Sting then became one of most acclaimed solo songwriters of his generation. \nFrom Roxanne and Every Breath You Take to Fields of Gold and Englishman in New York\, all the hits are reproduced with stunning fidelity and vocal accuracy. Be sure to catch a show in 2025.
