SUMMARY:Alfrick\, Lulsley and the Knapp and Papermill (Malvern Walking Festival)
DESCRIPTION:We leave Alfrick across fields towards Lulsley Pool. Here we join the Worcester way through to Blackhouse Woods\, an ancient semi- natural woodland with rare lime trees and a rich moth population\, where we follow leafy paths down a steep(ish) incline to an old orchard and a track leading to Whitehouse lane. Fields and tracks to the Knapp and Papermill and a lovely walk along Leigh brook where we might catch a darting flash of blue from the resident kingfisher and home with a short steep(ish) incline. The Knapp and Papermill reserve is the home of an 18th century Papermill ( no longer working) and has a rich geological history involving a glacial meltwater gorge. The surrounding woodland is ancient and the area around the reserve once contained a deserted medieval settlement called Kenelmstowe. \nThere are a few hills on this walk\, 1-3 stiles depending on terrain on the day and lovely views. \n\n£6.00 \n\n\n\nDistance:\n5 miles\n\n\nDuration:\n3 hours\n\n\nDifficulty:\nModerate\n\n\nDate:\n24 May\n\n\nStart time:\n10:00 am\n\n\nWalk leader:\nAmanda Williams (Leadon Vale Ramblers & Alfrick Active)\n\n\nStart location:\nAlfrick village hall\nClay green\nAlfrick\nWR6 5HJ\n\n\nGrid reference:\nSO 7453\n\n\nWhat3Words:\nhttps://w3w.co/develop.digested.robe\n\n\nFurther details:\nPark behind the village hall. SUMMARY:Malvern Hills Literary Loop: Tolkien\, Lewis\, Darwin and Dickens
DESCRIPTION:Legendary fantasy authors JRR Tolkien and CS Lewis were frequent visitors to the Malvern Hills around the middle of the 20th century and the distinctive landscape may have inspired features of Middle Earth and Narnia\, like the Giant’s Cave from The Hobbit and the Victorian gas lamps from The Lion\, the Witch & the Wardrobe. \nA century earlier\, authors Charles Darwin and Charles Dickens visited Malvern for the Water Cure and most of the treatment centres and guest houses still remain. \nThe Malvern Hills Literary Loop starts at the Mr. Tumnus bench in Priory Park and heads up past Knotsford House where Dickens stayed to Lewis’s former school Cherbourg House before pausing at the Lewis Memorial in Rosebank Gardens and following the gas lamps up to St. Ann’s Well cafe. \nAfter admiring the views around North Hill\, the trail descends to Alexandra Rd where Lewis’s close friend & biographer George Sayer lived\, opposite the former home of composer Edward Elgar. \nThe loop then heads up past Montreal House where Darwin stayed during his daughter’s treatment and past Lewis & Tolkien’s favourite pub The Unicorn Inn before passing the Hobbit door and down to Malvern Priory to find Anne Darwin’s grave and potentially the original Narnian gas lamp. \nDates and booking\nThe walks are available on many dates\, often with the option of two start times on the same day. SUMMARY:Curious Voice Presents 'The Singer's Toolkit' - An Interactive Singing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:‘The Singer’s Toolkit’ is an interactive singing workshop focussing on technique\, freedom and confidence\, held in Studio One at Malvern Theatres\, between 1pm and 4pm. \nWhy do some notes feel powerful\, while others crack\, flip\, or disappear? \nIn this interactive\, live group singing workshop\, you’ll explore your vocal registers and begin building a practical singer’s toolkit you can rely on. Through guided exercises and short song excerpts\, you’ll discover how to move between registers with greater ease\, clarity\, and confidence – while understanding what’s happening in your voice and body along the way. \nThis session is about more than just singing songs. It’s about developing technique\, increasing vocal freedom\, and building confidence in a supportive\, informative\, and encouraging environment: \n\n\n\nNo experience needed\nCuriosity encouraged\nPractical tools you can use (and feel) straight away\nDevelop your voice and performance skills\n\n\n\nYou don’t need to be a soloist. You don’t need to feel confident. You just need curiosity. Come as you are. Sing as you are. Leave lighter\, freer\, and more empowered. \nLed by Cathy Hart – a professional singer\, contemporary vocal coach and choir leader with over 20 years’ experience – this workshop combines clear\, evidence-informed voice teaching with an uplifting\, supportive approach designed to help singers feel safe\, capable\, and confident in their own sound. \nTickets: £49.00 – available to book online \nSpaces are limited to keep the session interactive and supportive. \nThere is a coffee shop onsite\, so feel free to arrive early for a relaxed lunch. A short break will be included during the session if you’d like to grab tea or coffee. \nTo help the space feel safe and present\, this workshop will not be recorded. We may take a small number of photographs for future promotional use – please just let us know on the day if you’d prefer not to be included. \nPlease note: only two Curious Voice workshops will run this year. Spaces are limited\, so early booking is recommended. \nThe second workshop in the series – although both can be attended as standalone events – will take place on Sunday 1st November (same venue\, same time). Ticket details coming soon. \n*All bookings are non-refundable. Once purchased\, tickets cannot be exchanged or refunded.

SUMMARY:Helicopter rescue – what money can’t buy! (Malvern Walking Festival)
DESCRIPTION:The Midlands Air Ambulance service is the charity the Festival supports as they do a wonderful job rescuing folk injured on outside events – fortunately we’ve never needed their services. Annually they invite us to visit their air base behind Strensham motorway services on the northbound M5 just past junc 8\, where hopefully we will meet the medics and hear about the wonderful service they provide and see over the helicopter. There is of course a risk that they will be out on an emergency call\, in which case we will have to settle for an interesting presentation by one of their staff. \nAs this is a walking festival\, after the visit to the base\, we’ll drive back to Upton for a leisurely 2 mile walk around by the River Severn before departing \nYou may want to bring some liquid refreshment and snacks for the afternoon / evening. \nNo stiles and no altitude gain. \n£6.00 \nDistance: 2 miles\nDuration: 3 hours\nDifficulty: Easy\nDate: 24 May\nStart time: 5:00 pm\nWalk leader: Keith Collins\nStart location: Midlands Air Ambulance base behind Strensham services\nStrensham services on north bound M5 just junc 8\nCroome\nWR8 0BZ\nGrid reference: SO 894 407\nWhat3Words: rigs.mailings.talkative\nFurther details:\nThere is plenty of parking outside the air base but no access via public transport. Full access details will be given to those booked nearer the date of the event.
