SUMMARY:Monday Matinee | Leonora in the Morning Light (15)
DESCRIPTION:FREE tea & biscuits included – the perfect way to enjoy a relaxed afternoon at the cinema! \nDefiant\, brilliant\, and untamable\, Leonora Carrington refused to live by anyone’s rules but her own. In the charged atmosphere of 1930s Paris\, she falls under the spell of the Surrealist movement – and into a passionate\, volatile love affair with the German artist Max Ernst. Together\, they create a world where art and life blur\, surrounded by icons like André Breton and Salvador Dalí\, and build an otherworldly refuge in the south of France filled with sculpted creatures and strange\, living dreams. \nBut as war engulfs Europe\, their fantasy shatters. Ernst is arrested as an enemy alien\, and Leonora is thrust into a nightmare of loss\, madness\, and survival. Fleeing to Spain\, she spirals into psychological torment and endures brutal institutional treatment. Emerging scarred but unbroken\, Leonora finds her way to Mexico – a place of magic and rebirth – where she reclaims her art\, her identity\, and her freedom. \nLeonora in the Morning Light is the story of a woman who turned trauma into transcendence\, creating beauty from chaos and forging a legacy that changed the history of modern art\, making her currently the highest-selling female British artist. \nDirected by: Lena Vurma & Thor Klein\nCast includes: Olivia Vinall\, Alexander Scheer\, Ryan Gage

SUMMARY:Meditation and Buddhism Class
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Adhisthana to meditate with others and develop your ability to work creatively with your mind. You can either learn to meditate from scratch and develop the foundations for a daily practice or join the regulars to build on what you know and discover how to apply yourself effectively in meditation. \nAs of December 2025\, classes are being held on Mondays from 7.30pm – 9.30pm and are open to participants of all levels of experience. Please note there is no class on 22 or 29 December 2025. \nYou are welcome to arrive 15 minutes before the start. You’ll be greeted at the entrance by someone who will direct you where to go and help you with any queries. \nThe class takes place in a room on the first floor and is\, as a consequence\, unfortunately not accessible. \nIn the first half of the session\, we meditate together; this is followed by a tea break. In the second half\, we learn about the teachings of the Buddha with the chance to engage in discussion and ask questions. \nThe class is led by a team of members of the Triratna Buddhist Order and those who are training for ordination. \nIf you would like more information\, you can call Adhisthana on 01531 641726 or email us (otherwise just turn up!).
