DESCRIPTION:Calling budding local artists: Malvern Skyline Productions are holding an exciting competition in the run-up to the premiere of their play in October at Malvern Theatres. \nThe new play\, Storm Over Our Town – Malvern’s Rebel Dame\, is a celebration of the fascinating life of the renowned artist Dame Laura Knight\, who spent much of her life in the Malvern area. \nAll you need to do to enter the competition is complete a landscape painting of anywhere in the Malvern Hills District. It can be in any medium you like. Then send a photo of your work to Rachel Tobin\, the play’s director. \nThe closing date for entries is Saturday 5 September 2026. A selection (if possible all) of the photos will be projected for the audience to view at the start of each performance. There will be a prize for the overall winner of two free tickets to a performance and a personal meet and greet with the cast at the end of the show. \nEntries to Rachel Tobin: racheldianetobin@gmail.com \nPerformances of Storm Over Our Town are on Saturday 3 October 2026 (5pm & 7pm) and Sunday 4 October 2026 (3pm) – book your tickets via the Malvern Theatres website. \nN.B. SUMMARY:Hanley Swan Village Show & Car Boot 2026
DESCRIPTION:The Hanley Swan Village Show has been running since August 1862\, when the first Hanley Castle Horticultural and Flower Show was organised by the gentry of Hanley Castle parish. The aim was ‘to encourage horticulture among the cottagers\, and to stimulate them to neatness and order not only in their gardens but their households’. \nOver a century-and-a-half later\, it still takes place each year in August\, but it is now organised by local volunteers. Entry is open to all amateurs living in or around the parish. \nStaging of entries takes place on Friday 28 August from 3pm to 5pm and on Saturday 29 August from 8.30am to 10am. The show is then closed between 10am and 1.30pm for judging\, before opening to the public from 1.30pm – 5pm. Awards are presented at 4pm and raffle prizes at 4.30pm. \nAccess to the car boot field is from 12pm onwards and costs £10 per car\, payable in cash on the day\, but sellers must pre-register by completing the online form no later than 5pm the day before the show (Friday) and must remain on site until 4pm on the show day. \nThere will also be a variety of stalls selling hand-made items\, plants and food. \nPlus\, Single Reeds\, a wind-based band from Malvern\, will be performing a range of music from light entertainment through to Big Band sounds\, popular light classical pieces and classic pop\, outside the village hall from 2pm. \nAdmission to the show is free.

Its dramatic setting is breathtaking in any weather and the remarkable woman who built it is equally inspiring. \nThis play was written by local playwright Rachel Tobin\, who also serves as producer and director\, and is performed by actors from Malvern Skyline Productions. SUMMARY:Meditation and Buddhism Class
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Adhisthana to meditate with others and develop your ability to work creatively with your mind. You can either learn to meditate from scratch and develop the foundations for a daily practice or join the regulars to build on what you know and discover how to apply yourself effectively in meditation. \nAs of December 2025\, classes are being held on Mondays from 7.30pm – 9.30pm and are open to participants of all levels of experience. Please note there is no class on 22 or 29 December 2025. \nYou are welcome to arrive 15 minutes before the start. You’ll be greeted at the entrance by someone who will direct you where to go and help you with any queries. \nThe class takes place in a room on the first floor and is\, as a consequence\, unfortunately not accessible. \nIn the first half of the session\, we meditate together; this is followed by a tea break. In the second half\, we learn about the teachings of the Buddha with the chance to engage in discussion and ask questions. \nThe class is led by a team of members of the Triratna Buddhist Order and those who are training for ordination. \nIf you would like more information\, you can call Adhisthana on 01531 641726 or email us (otherwise just turn up!).
