DESCRIPTION:Colwall Players present Playhouse Creatures by April De Angelis \nThe play is set in 1669 – a bawdy and troublesome time. Theatres had just re-opened after 17 years of suppression under the Puritans and for the first time English actresses are seen on stage. \nApril De Angelis has taken five famous figures – including Nell Gwynn – and given us a fascinating look at the precarious lot of actresses at the time. The Malvern Water Music – Community Workshop takes place on Saturday 14 June\, from 2pm – 4pm\, at The Octagon Centre. Entry is free\, and everyone aged 12+ is warmly invited to join in. \nThis joyful\, inclusive event is commissioned by the Malvern Spa Association as part of a wider project celebrating the heritage and creative potential of Malvern’s famous waters. \nLed by Liz Dilnot Johnson – an award-winning composer and community music leader based in Malvern – the session offers fun and accessible creative activities for writers\, singers\, nature-lovers\, and anyone keen to try something different. Through sound\, movement\, and words\, participants will explore the bubbling springs and healing history of the local area – and turn that inspiration into something brand new. No experience is necessary – just curiosity and an open mind! \nThe workshop will contribute to the creation of a brand-new collaborative piece that will be performed at Malvern Theatres (Studio One) on Friday 4 July at 7pm. \n“I am so excited to be leading this creative session and to develop ideas together around bubbling springs and Malvern Water\,” says Liz. “Together we will create a new work that will be performed at the Malvern Theatre on July 4th. I love these kinds of workshops where everyone can relax and explore their imagination in different ways. SUMMARY:Wilfrid Noyce - Unveiling of Blue Plaque (Midsummer Malvern)
DESCRIPTION:Noyce started teaching at Malvern College in 1946\, where he helped to form the Senior Scout troop in that same year\, and he was actively involved in it for three years he was at the college\, which included acting as chairman of the Laletes Society\, which saw a “dramatic increase in members” discussing academic and political papers. \nHe also helped with the felling of several trees in the Firs in 1947. \nIt was also during his time at the College that he wrote and published his book\, Of Mountains and Men (c. 1949). \nAfter he departed in 1950 to teach at Charterhouse\, he married a Miss Rosemary Davis\, who was on the Girls’ College staff\, and returned regularly to give talks on climbing and mountaineering\, which he continued to do until 1961. \nHe was chosen to be a member of the expedition to Mount Everest in 1953. In the event he was ‘Number Three’ on the summit team and was first reserve if Hillary or Tenzing had dropped out. \nNoyce died in a mountaineering accident together with the 23-year-old Scot Robin Smith in 1962 after a successful ascent of Mount Garmo (6\,595m)\, in the Pamirs. \nImage © Kate Wrigglesworth

SUMMARY:The Hills Singers in Concert (Midsummer Malvern)
DESCRIPTION:Directed by Carol Green \nThe Hills Singers perform in Studio One at Malvern Theatres in July with a programme called ‘Rejoice in Summer’. It will be a collection of songs from all ages\, celebrating the natural world\, poetry\, and human relations\, from the exuberant spiritual ‘Every time I feel the Spirit’\, to Mozart’s ‘Veni sancte Spiritus’\, and Handel’s ‘Hallelujah’ Chorus. \nThe concert also includes Malvern Spa Association’s first new piece of Malvern Water Music for the 21st century\, created with the community by Malvern-based composer Liz Dilnot-Johnson.
