DESCRIPTION:Musicians\nTom Poster piano\nElena Urioste violin \n  \nProgramme\nMendelssohn Violin Sonata in F (1838)\nMélanie Bonis Violin Sonata in F sharp minor\, Op.112\nAmy Beach Romance\, Op.23\nGrieg Violin Sonata No.1 in F\, Op.8 \n  \nTom Poster\nTom Poster is a musician whose skills and passions extend well beyond the conventional role of the concert pianist. He has been described as ‘a marvel\, [who] can play anything in any style’ (The Herald)\, and as having ‘a beautiful tone that you can sink into like a pile of cushions’ (BBC Music). \nTom is founder and artistic director of Kaleidoscope Chamber Collective\, appointed Associate Ensemble at Wigmore Hall in 2020. During the 2020 lockdown\, his #UriPosteJukebox series with Elena Urioste reached audiences across the world and won the duo the Royal Philharmonic Society’s Inspiration Award and a BBC Music Magazine Award. \nTom has performed over forty concertos from Mozart to Ligeti with orchestras including Aurora\, BBC Philharmonic\, Hallé\, Philharmonia\, Royal Philharmonic and Scottish Chamber. His compositions and arrangements have been commissioned and performed by Alison Balsom\, Matthew Rose\, Yo-Yo Ma and Kathryn Stott. \n  \nElena Urioste\nElena Urioste is a musician\, yogi\, writer\, and entrepreneur\, and is a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music and the Juilliard School. As a violinist\, Elena has given acclaimed performances as soloist with major orchestras throughout the world\, including the Philadelphia\, Cleveland and Minnesota Orchestras; the New York\, Los Angeles and Buffalo Philharmonics; the Boston Pops; the Chicago\, Boston\, San Francisco\, National\, Atlanta\, Baltimore\, and Detroit Symphony Orchestras; the London Philharmonic\, Hallé\, Philharmonia\, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic\, Malaysia Philharmonic\, and Chineke! Orchestras; and the BBC Symphony\, BBC Philharmonic\, BBC Scottish Symphony orchestras and BBCNOW. \nElena is a former BBC New Generation Artist and made her BBC Proms debut in 2022 with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. She is the founder and Artistic Director of Chamber Music by the Sea\, an annual festival on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. SUMMARY:The Fandangos
DESCRIPTION:The Fandangos are a five-piece band formed in Hereford in 2022. They’ve built up a loyal local following by playing in live music venues across Herefordshire and Worcestershire. Their style of music is a “great mix of blues\, folk\, rock and funk vibes”\, with “well crafted” and “insightful” lyrics\, delivered with energy and a “powerful voice…reminiscent of Alison Moyet and Alannis Morrisette” (SLAP Magazine). \nThe Fandangos played a full live set of original songs at the Lakefest 2023 music festival at Eastnor Castle to a packed audience and their songs and live performances have been featured on BBC Introducing. A world where every moment of music was created at that moment. And where music was regarded as one of the doors into Heaven. This was Leipzig in 1724\, where music was a door to God’s mercy\, so much so\, that the boys of the Tomanerchor (the choir Bach directed at the St Thomas church) sang hymns outside the condemned murderer’s cell on the eve of their execution. \nGood Friday 1724\, three hundred years ago\, was on April 7th and because no-one was working due to the solemnity of the day\, all of Leipzig would have been required to attend one of the churches. No doubt the service at the St Nicholas church was the ‘hot ticket’ that year. For\, this was the venue of the first performance of Bach’s Johnannes Passion\, or St John Passion\, due to repairs being carried out on the Tomaskirche\, Leipzig’s principal church. \nLet’s zoom in on Leipzig and ask\, ‘who’s that walking briskly towards the St Nicholas church?’ He’s followed by a gang of men carrying a harpsichord. That’s him\, of course\, our ‘city composer’\, Johann Bach\, followed by his office staff\, clutching sheaves of music manuscript. The harpsichord has been specially repaired\, whith funds from the city\, and his new ‘Passion’ is the talk of the town. Everyone wants a seat to hear his divine music and have a glimpse into a heavenly world. \nTo celebrate Bach’s achievement\, we seek to create this sublime experience once again\, three hundred years later to the day\, and possibly the hour\, where a community comes together to perform and hear music which opens the doors to Heaven. \nPlease join us at Christchurch\, Avenue Rd. With its ethos of ‘sharing the heart of music’\, the Quartet believes that chamber music is an act of friendship to be shared directly with audiences and is committed to crafting unique and eclectic programmes that engage listeners in new and imaginative ways. \nThe Quartet has performed at many of the major European venues and festivals including the Vienna Konzerthaus\, Wigmore Hall\, Beethovenhaus Bonn\, De Bijloke\, Barcelona Auditori\, De Doelen\, Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern\, BBC Proms\, Heidelberg String Quartet Festival\, West Cork Chamber Music Festival and the Amsterdam String Quartet Biennale\, as well as appearing regularly at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw and Amsterdam Muziekgebouw. \nHighlights of the 2022-23 season include return visits to major venues including Wigmore Hall\, Muziekgebouw Amsterdam and De Doelen. Dutch tours include performances in Tilburg\, Hilversum and Maastricht as well as at the November Music Festival\, whilst UK performances take them to cities including Cambridge\, Norwich and Portsmouth. Elsewhere\, the Quartet gives debut performances in Sweden and Malaysia. \nThe Dudok Quartet’s most recent recording of the complete Brahms Quartets for Rubicon Classics (performed on gut strings) was released in 2021 and attracted wonderful reviews across the board\, with The Telegraph describing the recording as a ‘marvel\, revealing the intricate detail of these pieces with lovely clarity’ and The Strad awarding it the accolade The Strad Recommends. Future recording plans for Rubicon include works by Bacewicz\, Shostakovich and Reich as well as the complete Tchaikovsky Quartets. \nThe Quartet performs on instruments generously on loan from the Dutch Musical Instrument Foundation (NMF); violins by Francesco Goffriller and Vincenzo Panormo\, viola by Jean Baptiste Lefèbvre and cello by Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume. \nImage copyright: Green Room Creatives / Yuri Andries
