SUMMARY:RBO 2025/26: La Sonnambula
DESCRIPTION:Live broadcast from The Metropolitan Opera \nFollowing triumphant Met performances in Roméo et Juliette\, La Traviata\, and Lucia di Lammermoor\, Nadine Sierra excels again as Amina\, who sleepwalks her way into the hearts of the audience in Bellini’s poignant tale of love lost and found. In his new production\, Rolando Villazón — the tenor who has established a brilliant second career as a director — keeps the opera’s original setting in the Swiss Alps but uses its somnambulant plot to explore the emotional and psychological valleys of the mind. Tenor Xabier Anduaga returns after his acclaimed 2023 Met debut in L’Elisir d’Amore\, co-starring as Amina’s fiancé Elvino\, alongside soprano Sydney Mancasola as her rival\, Lisa\, and bass Alexander Vinogradov as Count Rodolfo. Riccardo Frizza is the conductor for this\, one of opera’s most ravishing works. \nRunning time: 195 minutes (one interval)\nSung in Italian with English subtitles

SUMMARY:Voices in Prayer and Celebration - A Musical Voyage Across Continents
DESCRIPTION:A French choir\, the Chœur de Chambre des Deux-Sèvres\, will perform Malvern as part of a week-long tour of the UK. The choir\, directed by Anne Koppe\, consists of approximately 30 amateur singers chosen for their vocal and musical abilities. Their repertoire includes a wide range of mostly unaccompanied choral music\, from the medieval period to the present day. \nIn Malvern\, the choir will present their programme entitled Voices in Prayer and Celebration\, a selection of sacred and secular works. The programme takes the form of a musical voyage from Scandinavia to the USA\, taking in both France and the UK. Featured composers include Benjamin Britten\, Ola Gjeilo\, Thierry Machuel\, Javier Busto and John Tavener among many others. \nThe choir’s performances combine music with movement: pieces may be sung in procession\, or in two groups at the front and back of the church\, or by surrounding the audience so that the listeners are immersed in the sound. \nThe concert is hosted by the charity Headway Worcestershire\, which will receive all proceeds. \nTickets: £10 – available to book online at Eventbrite

SUMMARY:English Touring Opera: The Rape of Lucretia
DESCRIPTION:A group of bored soldiers resolve to put the loyalty of the wives they have left behind at home to the test\, setting in motion a cruel and reckless series of events that have shattering ramifications. \nBenjamin Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia was written in the aftermath of the World War Two and reflects a world struggling to remake itself after unimaginable suffering and destruction. In today’s world\, it is still a brutally relevant and disturbing exploration of the abuse of power\, shot through with glimmers of hope for a better world. Characterised by a beautiful\, sparse score for just thirteen players\, the opera shows beauty and lyricism wrestling with the forces of darkness. \nPerformed in English with English surtitles. \nThis performance contains depictions of physical violence\, suicide and references to sexual violence.
