SUMMARY:Hejira – Celebrating Joni Mitchell
DESCRIPTION:‘Hejira’ is a seven-piece band formed to celebrate and honour the masterpiece works of Joni Mitchell\, predominantly from the late 1970s. Having released the albums The Hissing of Summer Lawns\, Hejira\, Don Juan’s Reckless Daughter and Mingus (considered to be her ‘jazz period’)\, Mitchell then toured briefly with a band formed from the crème de la crème of contemporaneous jazz musicians (Metheny\, Mays\, Brecker\, Pastorius and Alias). The tour was recorded\, producing the outstanding live album Shadows And Light; it is from this album that the band Hejira is drawing the body of its repertoire.  \nFeaturing highly experienced jazz musicians\, including legendary guitarist Pete Oxley\, Hejira is fronted by the brilliant Hattie Whitehead. Hattie has masterfully recreated the poise\, power and beauty of Joni Mitchell’s vocals while also playing guitar in Joni’s unique style. All are welcome to attend. \nMusicians\nBenjamin Nabarro Violin\nGary Pomeroy Viola\nGemma Rosefield Cello\nTim Horton Piano \nProgramme\nHaydn Piano Trio No.43 in C\, Hob XV:27\nBeethoven Piano Trio No.5 in D\, Op.70 No.1 Ghost (as originally programmed)\nDvorák Piano Quartet in E flat\, Op.87 \nEnsemble 360 is a mixed and flexible group comprising five string players\, five winds\, and piano. The ensemble was formed in 2005 by Music in the Round to continue the great legacy of the Lindsay Quartet. The group now enjoys a glowing reputation throughout the UK and is known for the outstanding quality of its performances\, the breadth of its work\, and its passion for reaching new audiences. DESCRIPTION:Back for 2025\, join Malvern Town Council for an 18-week programme running throughout the summer months (with the exception of 6 July) that will see bands from around Worcestershire coming to play in the Priory Park Bandstand. There is something for everyone\, with many genres covered over the season including brass band\, jazz\, pop\, folk\, blues and many more. \nAll concerts run from 2.30pm – 4.30pm (except 17 August 2025\, when there will be an earlier start with an additional band at 1pm) and are free to attend. \nBring a rug or folding chair to sit on if you wish. It’s just a three-minute walk from the park to some of Great Malvern’s wide range of shops and cafes\, where you can purchase a drink\, lunch or treat to enjoy whilst listening to the music. The violinist was Nigel Kennedy\, and the concertos were The Four Seasons – masterpieces of mood\, evocation and musical storytelling that take listeners on an imaginary journey through the unbridled joys of Spring\, the oppressive heat of Summer\, the melancholy resignation of Autumn and the brutal ferocity of Winter.  \nThree centuries since the publication of Vivaldi’s concertos in Venice\, Kennedy returns to the pieces that made his name and to which he brought such staggering verve and spirit back in 1989. Musical accompaniment will come from a select group of some of the UK’s leading West End singers and musicians\, led by Musical Director Duncan Waugh.

The violinist was Nigel Kennedy\, and the concertos were The Four Seasons – masterpieces of mood\, evocation and musical storytelling that take listeners on an imaginary journey through the unbridled joys of Spring\, the oppressive heat of Summer\, the melancholy resignation of Autumn and the brutal ferocity of Winter.  \nThree centuries since the publication of Vivaldi’s concertos in Venice\, Kennedy returns to the pieces that made his name and to which he brought such staggering verve and spirit back in 1989.
