The Estate also offers accommodation and an innovative ‘farm-to-fork’ restaurant. \nThe exhibition will be open from 10am – 4pm from 31 May – 8 June and from 19 – 22 June; the gardens will also be open (entry £8 – donated to charities) on 7 & 8 June and 20 – 22 June at the same times. \nA private view will be available on Friday 30 May from 6 – 7.30 pm. SUMMARY:Exhibition: Great Malvern Priory Development Project - Light and Space
DESCRIPTION:Over a period of several years\, plans have been developed to improve the visitor and community experience at Great Malvern Priory in two ways. The first aim is to make the building more accessible on a practical level\, whilst the second is to go further in narrating the story of the life of the Priory\, its place in the town and its treasures – all in a vibrant and relevant way. \nThe Priory has a range of exciting plans as part of a large-scale development project. An application is being made to the National Heritage Lottery Fund\, which will help to secure the future of Great Malvern Priory and remove it from the Heritage At Risk Register. \nVisit the Priory between 14 and 23 March 2025 during normal opening hours to see an exhibition detailing the plans. If you can’t visit in person\, there’s an opportunity to view the exhibition online. There’s also a questionnaire to complete if you wish.

SUMMARY:Wild Imagination Exhibition (Animation) with Sarah Taylor Silverwood
DESCRIPTION:The animation is a creative response to Croome’s “Pages from Nature” theme\, inspired by the Hortus Croomensis\, a comprehensive guide to the estate’s abundant and exotic plant collection written by William Dean\, who was Head Gardener at Croome back in 1824. Sarah worked with young participants from the local area to examine some of the flora found in William Dean’s publication that still thrive today. They gathered drawings and captured sounds that the artist transformed into characters that go on a wild adventure across Croome’s gardens. \nField recordings and observations from the participants have been produced into an accompanying soundtrack produced by artist Anna Palmer. \nEntry to the exhibition (animation) is free\, but normal admission charges apply for the venue. Booking is not required. \nThis project is generously supported by the Tony Brooks legacy and public funding from Arts Council England and The Elmley Foundation. \nVisit the National Trust website for more information\, including opening times.

The exhibition consists of ten selected images captured within the sessile oak woodland on Resting Hill\, Snailbeach\, photographed by Shropshire-based movement and film artist Ray Jacobs. \nRay states: “For me\, photography is all about the experience of walking through the landscape and encountering beauty in all its forms. The combination of soundscape\, landscape\, light\, the changes of both outdoor weather and my own emotional weather\, create moments to capture and translate into photographic image. On this day\, I was entranced by the beauty of the sessile oaks highlighted by the blanket of snow. \n“In the journey to the woods\, I encountered a myriad of animal paths\, snowdrifts\, sometimes up to my waist\, the silence of snow\, and the ever-refreshing cold against my face. I walked in many\, many circles; there were far too many exquisite forms and dances of these oaks to capture. I fell down on the aptly named Resting Hill… a lot\, and stayed until the numbness in my toes and fingers signalled it was time for home.” \nN.B. The exhibition is available to all visitors during core staffed hours; during “Libraries Unlocked” opening times\, it’s available only to those who have registered for this upgrade to their membership. DESCRIPTION:“A World of Christmas” is an exhibition of nativity sets from around the world and is open daily between 2pm and 5pm from Saturday 30 November to Sunday 8 December 2024. \nThis annual exhibition features over three hundred nativities from nearly one hundred countries around the world and makes the perfect start to the season of Advent. Items on display illustrate the Christmas story using wood\, metal\, paper\, felt\, wool\, fabric\, and clay; carved from tropical nuts\, formed from recycled bullets and spark plugs\, folded from old magazines. The Holy Family appear in the likeness of the people who made them\, the attendant animals are indigenous to their area\, and many of the craftspeople who create them rely on their work being Fair Trade. \nIn addition to the exhibition\, there will be Christmas refreshments available\, plus green Christmas ideas for an eco-friendly\, sustainable Christmas.

DESCRIPTION:Exhibition open 2 November – 16 December 2024 (closed Sundays) \nChiaroscuro (literally light-dark in Italian) is an exhibition of works on paper by Malvern artist Kim Whitby. \nTraditional works on paper such as watercolour\, or as in this exhibition in ink\, rely on the paper itself being the lightest aspect of the picture. The artist has to leave any light areas as untouched paper and show any brightness by painting in the other tones and all the dark areas. To quote Kim\, “In order to show the light I paint the dark.” \nThe exhibition runs until 16 December 2024 at Malvern Library in the Cafe Gallery during core opening hours. Artwork on display can be purchased through the library. \nKim\, who is also a qualified and experienced art teacher\, will be offering two free workshops in the library which will be open to the public or any library members. The first workshop is in the Library on 19 November\, 2.30pm – 4pm.

DESCRIPTION:“The Malverns: Variations for Strings and Fresh Air” – exhibition of more photos by Michael Dowty\n10 September – 20 October 2024 \nSome of you may have seen the display of “Malvern in a Day” posters in 2022 in Church Walk outside Waitrose and Wilko (now B&M). Thanks to everyone who bought the book that it inspired. \nThis year\, volunteers from the Museum are back with an exhibition of Dowty’s second collection of photos with contemporary comments and oral history. As the title suggests\, these images cover a wider range of topics – as varied as walks on the hills\, orienteering\, Malvern College’s first public fete\, visits by the circus and fun fair\, archaeologists and the Elgar Society meetings\, restoring the Holy Well and lots more. \nPick up a free leaflet (available soon) from Waitrose\, B&M\, Malvern Tourist Information Centre\, Malvern Museum\, Malvern Library or any Malvern bookshop. \nCome along and see for yourself – you may be able to spot someone you knew or place you visited.
