SUMMARY:Hanley Swan Village Show & Car Boot
DESCRIPTION:The Hanley Swan Village Show has been running since August 1862\, when the first Hanley Castle Horticultural and Flower Show was organised by the gentry of Hanley Castle parish. The aim was ‘to encourage horticulture among the cottagers\, and to stimulate them to neatness and order not only in their gardens but their households’. \nOver a century-and-a-half later\, it still takes place each year in August\, but it is now organised by local volunteers. Entry is open to all amateurs living in or around the parish. \nThe doors to the show open at 8.30am\, with all entries needing to be staged by 10.30am. The hall is closed to the public between 10.30am and 1.30pm for judging\, reopening to the public at 1.30pm. \nAccess to the car boot field is from 12pm onwards and costs £10 per car (must remain on site until 4pm). \nThere will also be a variety of stalls selling hand-made items\, plants and food.

SUMMARY:The Rivals
DESCRIPTION:Come along to Witley Court and Gardens for an al fresco farce this summer. \nWhen fashionable eighteenth-century London society comes to take the waters in the spa-town of Bath\, comic confusion\, daring duels and romantic entanglements abound. At the core of it all is heiress Lydia Languish\, who is set on eloping with the penniless Ensign Beverly rather than marrying the eligible Jack Absolute. \nJoin us in beautiful setting of Witley Court to sample the sparkling wit and whirlwind plot of The Rivals\, a Restoration Comedy that has delighted audiences for more than two-and-a-half centuries thanks to its collection of comic characters\, including the formidable Mrs Malaprop\, a literary creation so famous for the way she mangles the English language that her name is now immortalised in the dictionary. \nThis brand new adaptation combines Richard Brinsley Sheridan’s masterpiece with Rain or Shine’s fast and furious comic flair. \nTickets: £17.34 for adults / £8.78 for children 5 – 17 – available to book online
