SUMMARY:Malvern Hills Literary Loop: Tolkien\, Lewis\, Darwin & Dickens
DESCRIPTION:Legendary fantasy authors JRR Tolkien and CS Lewis were frequent visitors to the Malvern Hills around the middle of the 20th century and the distinctive landscape may have inspired features of Middle Earth and Narnia\, like the Giant’s Cave from the Hobbit and the Victorian gas lamps from The Lion\, the Witch & the Wardrobe. \nA century earlier\, authors Charles Darwin and Charles Dickens visited Malvern for the Water Cure and most of the treatment centres and guest houses still remain. \nThe Malvern Hills Literary Loop starts at the Mr. Tumnus bench in Priory Park and heads up past Knotsford House where Dickens stayed to Lewis’s former school Cherbourg House before pausing at the Lewis Memorial in Rosebank Gardens and following the gas lamps up to St. Ann’s Well cafe. \nAfter admiring the views around North Hill\, the trail descends to Alexandra Rd where Lewis’s close friend & biographer George Sayers lived\, opposite the former home of composer Edward Elgar. \nThe loop then heads up past Montreal House where Darwin stayed during his daughter’s treatment and past Lewis & Tolkien’s favourite pub The Unicorn Inn before passing the Hobbit door and down to Malvern Priory to find Anne Darwin’s grave and potentially the original Narnian gas lamp. \nDates and booking\nThe walks are available on many dates\, often with the option of two start times on the same day. For more information\, including prices\, availability and to book. visit the Malvern Hills Literary Loop: Tolkien\, Lewis\, Darwin & Dickens page on Airbnb.

SUMMARY:To a Land Unknown (15) (Borderlines Film Festival)
DESCRIPTION:DIRECTOR: Mahdi Fleifel\nSTARRING: Mahmood Bakri\, Aram Sabbah\, Angeliki Papoulia\nUK/PALESTINE/FRANCE/GREECE/NETHERLANDS/GERMANY/QATAR/ SAUDI ARABIA\, 2024\,\n1 HOUR 45 MINUTES\,\nARABIC/GREEK/ENGLISH + ENGLISH SUBTITLES \nFleifel’s first feature about two Palestinian refugees stranded in Athens is an intense thriller with high moral stakes. \nCousins Chatila and Reda dream of opening a café in Germany. For now\, they’re reduced to begging\, borrowing and grifting their way through the city streets to raise money for fake passports. But when Reda loses their stash to his drug addiction\, it barrels them towards a knife-edge scheme to make one big score and get out. \nPainting refugees as neither victims\, martyrs nor saints\, this modern neorealist tale that recalls Bicycle Thieves and Midnight Cowboy is a powerful exercise in wringing extreme tension from the most human of impulses: to live in safety\, to bring comfort to ourselves and our families. \nShow Times\n*Film starts at advertised time*\nSunday 2nd March at 4.30pm – STUDIO ONE\nWednesday 5th March at 4.30pm – CINEMA\nThursday 6th March at 1.15pm – STUDIO ONE

SUMMARY:On Falling (15) PREVIEW (Borderlines Film Festival)
DESCRIPTION:DIRECTOR: Laura Carreira\nSTARRING: Joana Santos\, Inês Vaz\, Piotr Sikora\nUK/PORTUGAL\, 2024\,\n1 HOUR 44 MINUTES\,\nENGLISH/PORTUGUESE + ENGLISH SUBTITLES \nLaura Carreira’s impressive feature debut is a powerful and nuanced meditation on social isolation and alienation. \nWorking round the clock at a vast fulfilment centre in Edinburgh\, warehouse picker Aurora (Portuguese screen star Joana Santos) is a slave to the algorithm. Trapped between the\nconfines of her workplace and the solitude of her flat share\, she is desperate to build a rich and meaningful life but enjoys only the slightest of exchanges with her co-workers and flatmates. \nWithin a culture dominated by an anonymising gig economy and the wider social and technological forces that seem designed to keep us apart\, On Falling explores the struggle to find real connection. \nBest Director\, San Sebastián International Film Festival 2024\nSutherland Prize for First Feature\, BFI London Film Festival 2024 \nPreview courtesy of Conic \nShow Times\n*Film starts at advertised time*\nSunday 2nd March at 7pm – STUDIO ONE\nThursday 6th March at 1pm – CINEMA

SUMMARY:Happyend (12A) PREVIEW (Borderlines Film Festival)
DESCRIPTION:DIRECTOR: Neo Sora\nSTARRING: Hayato Kurihara\, Yukito Hidaka\, Yuta Hayashi\, Shina Peng\nUS/JAPAN\, 2024\,\n1 HOUR 53 MINUTES\,\nJAPANESE + ENGLISH SUBTITLES \nIn a futuristic Tokyo shaken by earthquake alerts\, a group of highspirited teenagers defy the surveillance systems of their authoritarian school. \nThis feature debut from Neo Sora follows his documentary tribute to his composer father Ryuichi Sakamoto – and techno music is a passion that the young rebels share. Best friends Yuta and Kou aspire to be DJs but with different cultural and socio-economic backgrounds\, their outlook and paths gradually diverge. \nThis beautifully crafted vision of a dystopian and xenophobic city – not so farfetched – urges us to imagine the possibilities of the future and consider them right now. \nPreview courtesy of Modern Films \nShow Times\n*Film starts at advertised time*\nSunday 2nd March at 7.15pm\nTuesday 4th March at 2pm\nVenue: Forum Theatre
