SUMMARY:The Sound of Music
DESCRIPTION:Our Star Theatre Company makes a much-anticipated return to Malvern Theatres with Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II‘s timeless classic The Sound of Music. This is their 5th community musical and follows their hugely successful and acclaimed productions in the Forum Theatre of Fiddler on the Roof (2024) and Evita (2025). \nThe final collaboration between Rodgers and Hammerstein was destined to become the world’s most beloved musical. In Austria\, 1938\, an exuberant young governess brings music and joy back to a broken family\, only to face danger and intrigue as the Nazis gain power. The inspirational story\, based on the memoir of Maria Augusta Trapp\, follows an ebullient postulate who serves as governess to the seven children of the imperious Captain von Trapp\, bringing music and joy to the household. But as the forces of Nazism take hold of Austria\, Maria and the entire von Trapp family must make a moral decision. \nShow times\nWednesday 5 August 2026\, 7pm\nThursday 6 August 2026\, 7pm\nFriday 7 August 2026\, 7pm\nSaturday 8 August 2026\, 2pm\nSaturday 8 August 2026\, 7pm

SUMMARY:Malvern Pastel Artists
DESCRIPTION:Who are we?\nMalvern Pastel Artists is a new community art group starting in 2026 meeting fortnightly. We would like to welcome other local pastel artists to create in a relaxed social space. The group is not a tutored class. Open to all abilities\, beginners are welcome to join. There will be some beginner-friendly art materials available for those new to pastels. \nWhat do we mean by pastels?\nWhat we love about pastels is that it’s drawing and painting combined in one – with intense colours closer to the raw pigment than other media. We define pastels as including soft pastels\, hard pastels\, pan pastels\, oil pastels\, charcoal\, graphite\, crayons\, any pencils and stick form media. Many of us are mixed-media artists and combine pastels with other media – watercolour\, for example. \nWhen?\nOne morning and one early evening session each month\, starting on 16 January 2026. (N.B. There is no session scheduled for the first Friday in April 2026\, which is Good Friday.) You are free to choose when to attend via our booking system (up to 20 people per session due to room size): \n\n1st Friday of the month: morning – 9.30am -12 noon\n3rd Friday of the month: evening – 6pm – 8.30 pm\n\nCosts\n£6 annual membership for 2026 (£0.50 a month) and £5 per booked session. Membership will be required to attend sessions and session tickets can be booked in advance. \nEmail: malvernpastelartists@hotmail.com

SUMMARY:Exhibition: Romancing the 18th Century from Rococo to Stage
DESCRIPTION:Exhibition opens Friday 29 May and runs until Saturday 26 September 2026 \nIn collaboration with the Malvern Theatre Players\, this exhibition will combine the museum’s collection with costume. \nWith the recent success of other exhibitions at the V&A focusing on Mary Antoinette\, both the real woman and the 2006 film\, we take a closer at look at why this period is so often romanticised. \nFrom extreme silhouette to powered wigs\, why can’t we get enough of 18th century fashion? \nThe Museum of Fashion Malvern is open every Friday and Saturday\, 10am – 4pm.

SUMMARY:Two Chairs (Ink & Curtain Festival)
DESCRIPTION:In the cold stillness of a psychiatric clinic\, two men sit opposite one another. One seems to hold authority\, guiding the conversation with measured precision. The other sits quietly\, offering little\, yet seeming to understand far more than he should. As the exchange develops\, the balance between them starts to shift\, and the room itself feels less certain. \nA young girl named Lucy Parker lingers at the edges of their conversation\, her presence felt long before her story is understood. Memories fracture\, truths slip\, and each question opens the door to something darker.
SUMMARY:Burn Baby Burn: LA Inferno (Ink & Curtain Festival)
DESCRIPTION:LA is burning. \nWhen two old Angelenos lose everything\, they must navigate overwhelming grief\, toxic ash and paperwork purgatory surrounded by clueless celebs and frazzled firefighters. 6000 miles away\, their (very) anxious daughter clings to composure. \nTwo-time Fringe Theatre Awards nominee\, Burn Baby Burn: LA Inferno is a searing tragicomedy exploring the human cost of climate change and the humans fanning the flames. A sharp-witted blend of storytelling\, songs and comic characterization. It asks questions nobody wants to answer like: Why was LA’s biggest reservoir empty? What the hell is a ‘firenado’? And how did ’80s film star Steve Guttenberg become a low-key hero? \nWith a childhood shaped by wildfires and her parents’ home destroyed in The Palisades Fire\, Hunter has transformed personal tragedy into heartbreaking and hilarious theatre. Burn Baby Burn is Erin Hunter’s second solo show\, following the success of critically acclaimed Surfing the Holyland\, which garnered nominations for the Popcorn/BBC New Writing Award and an Offie. Produced by Slackline Productions\, champions of women 35+\, and directed by its founder\, Kristin Duffy. \nShow times\nWednesday 12 August 2026\, 7.30pm \nTickets\n£18 including booking fee (unwaged\, over 60s\, students: £2 off) – available via the Malvern Theatres website and from the box office on 01684 892277
