DESCRIPTION:DIRECTOR: Mahdi Fleifel\nSTARRING: Mahmood Bakri\, Aram Sabbah\, Angeliki Papoulia\nUK/PALESTINE/FRANCE/GREECE/NETHERLANDS/GERMANY/QATAR/ SAUDI ARABIA\, 2024\,\n1 HOUR 45 MINUTES\,\nARABIC/GREEK/ENGLISH + ENGLISH SUBTITLES \nFleifel’s first feature about two Palestinian refugees stranded in Athens is an intense thriller with high moral stakes. \nCousins Chatila and Reda dream of opening a café in Germany. SUMMARY:On Falling (15) PREVIEW (Borderlines Film Festival)
DESCRIPTION:DIRECTOR: Laura Carreira\nSTARRING: Joana Santos\, Inês Vaz\, Piotr Sikora\nUK/PORTUGAL\, 2024\,\n1 HOUR 44 MINUTES\,\nENGLISH/PORTUGUESE + ENGLISH SUBTITLES \nLaura Carreira’s impressive feature debut is a powerful and nuanced meditation on social isolation and alienation. \nWorking round the clock at a vast fulfilment centre in Edinburgh\, warehouse picker Aurora (Portuguese screen star Joana Santos) is a slave to the algorithm. Trapped between the\nconfines of her workplace and the solitude of her flat share\, she is desperate to build a rich and meaningful life but enjoys only the slightest of exchanges with her co-workers and flatmates. \nWithin a culture dominated by an anonymising gig economy and the wider social and technological forces that seem designed to keep us apart\, On Falling explores the struggle to find real connection. \nBest Director\, San Sebastián International Film Festival 2024\nSutherland Prize for First Feature\, BFI London Film Festival 2024 \nPreview courtesy of Conic \nShow Times\n*Film starts at advertised time*\nSunday 2nd March at 7pm – STUDIO ONE\nThursday 6th March at 1pm – CINEMA

SUMMARY:Julie Keeps Quiet (12A) PREVIEW (Borderlines Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:DIRECTOR: Leonardo Van Dijl\nSTARRING: Tessa Van den Broeck\, Grace Biot\, Alyssa Lorette\nBELGIUM/SWEDEN\, 2024\,\n1 HOUR 40 MINUTES\,\nDUTCH/FRENCH + ENGLISH SUBTITLES \nA taut and controlled study of power\, abuse and repression is set in an elite tennis academy. \nJulie\, superbly played by newcomer and teen tennis player Tessa Van den Broeck\, excels in her sport of choice. She’s a star student\, heading for a professional career. When her\ncoach Jérémy is suspended\, suspicions of inappropriate conduct link him to the suicide of a former top pupil. As investigations into further possible abuse are pursued\, Julie is encouraged to speak up. She remains silent\, fixed on her game. This quietly potent drama speaks volumes about the inner turmoil and outward repression of abuse and trauma. \n“…a tense\, absorbing movie of silences and absences\, of difficult terrain skirted around\, of subjects avoided.” ★★★★ Peter Bradshaw\, The Guardian \nPreview courtesy of Curzon Film \nShow Times\n*Film starts at advertised time*\nThursday 6th March at 5pm\nVenue: Forum Theatr

SUMMARY:Memoir of a Snail (15) (Borderlines Film Festival)
DESCRIPTION:DIRECTOR: Adam Elliot\nWITH THE VOICES OF: Sarah Snook\, Kodi Smit-McPhee\, Jacki Weaver\nAUSTRALIA\, 2024\,\n1 HOURS 34 MINUTES\,\nENGLISH \nOscar-winning director Adam Elliot’s distinctive stop-motion animation style is perfect for conveying the sweet pathos of the outsider. \nIn 1970s Australia\, closeknit twins Grace and Gilbert are separated to opposite end of the continent while still children. Grace moves in with an affluent ‘swinger’ couple\, while Gilbert\, whose ambition is to be a fire eater\, is fostered by members of a cult. Grace’s life changes when she meets a colourful\, eccentric old lady called Pinky who has ‘done it all’ – from making love to John Denver to playing ping pong with Fidel Castro. \nWitty\, inventive but intensely full of feeling – as well as snail-obsessed – this is an animation gem. \n“He makes mainstream animation look a bit neurotypical.” Peter Bradshaw\, The Guardian \nBest Film Award\, BFI London Film Festival 2024 \nShow Times\n*Film starts at advertised time*\nFriday 7th March at 4.15pm – FORUM\nSunday 9th March at 4.30pm – STUDIO ONE

DESCRIPTION:DIRECTOR: Athena Rachel Tsangari\nSTARRING: Caleb Landry Jones\, Harry Melling\, Rosy McEwen\, Arinzé Kene\nUK/GERMANY/GREECE\, 2023\,\n2 HOURS 11 MINUTES\,\nENGLISH \nShot in Argyllshire\, Jim Crace’s novel about a closed rural community in an unspecified past undergoes imaginative realisation by Greek film maker Athena Rachel Tsangari. \nTsangari\, who has previously worked alongside Yorgos Lanthimos\, follows her incisive portrait of male anxiety\, Chevalier (2015)\, with a bold\,vivid and good-looking take on the period film. In the wake of a mysterious stable fire\, three incomers are blamed and persecuted\, but the biggest threats arrive separately. SUMMARY:Malvern Hills Literary Loop: Tolkien\, Lewis\, Darwin & Dickens
DESCRIPTION:Legendary fantasy authors JRR Tolkien and CS Lewis were frequent visitors to the Malvern Hills around the middle of the 20th century and the distinctive landscape may have inspired features of Middle Earth and Narnia\, like the Giant’s Cave from the Hobbit and the Victorian gas lamps from The Lion\, the Witch & the Wardrobe. \nA century earlier\, authors Charles Darwin and Charles Dickens visited Malvern for the Water Cure and most of the treatment centres and guest houses still remain. \nThe Malvern Hills Literary Loop starts at the Mr. Tumnus bench in Priory Park and heads up past Knotsford House where Dickens stayed to Lewis’s former school Cherbourg House before pausing at the Lewis Memorial in Rosebank Gardens and following the gas lamps up to St. Ann’s Well cafe. \nAfter admiring the views around North Hill\, the trail descends to Alexandra Rd where Lewis’s close friend & biographer George Sayers lived\, opposite the former home of composer Edward Elgar. \nThe loop then heads up past Montreal House where Darwin stayed during his daughter’s treatment and past Lewis & Tolkien’s favourite pub The Unicorn Inn before passing the Hobbit door and down to Malvern Priory to find Anne Darwin’s grave and potentially the original Narnian gas lamp. \nDates and booking\nThe walks are available on many dates\, often with the option of two start times on the same day. For more information\, including prices\, availability and to book. visit the Malvern Hills Literary Loop: Tolkien\, Lewis\, Darwin & Dickens page on Airbnb.

DESCRIPTION:DIRECTORS: John English\, Tom Garner\nSPAIN\, 2024\, 1 HOUR 32 MINUTES\, ENGLISH \nDiscrimination\, body shaming and violence. This is ballet in 2025. \nBut a group of defiant dancers\, survivors of industry abuse\, want to form a radical\, diverse company that opens its doors to others who have suffered abuse\, and give these talented\, traumatised survivors a chance to fight back\, on stage. DESCRIPTION:BORDERLINES FILM FESTIVAL \nDIRECTOR: RaMell Ross\nSTARRING: Ethan Herisse\, Brandon Wilson\, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor\nUS\, 2024\, 2 HOURS 20 MINUTES\, ENGLISH\nAD AUDIO DESCRIPTION AVAILABLE \nA superlative adaptation of Colson Whitehead’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel tells the story of Elwood\, a black teen sent to the hellish Nickel Academy. \nElwood befriends fellow student Turner and together they find a way to squirrel hope against the odds. \nDocumentary maker RaMell Ross launches into feature filmmaking with this audacious and profoundly moving tale of a mid-century reform school\, based on a notorious real-life institution. He uses an entirely visual means to explore not only what happened\, but also how it felt\, finding a new language to speak about the long shadow of trauma\, one that leaves cliché behind. \nPushing the painful to the margins\, just as its characters do\, this is impressive filmmaking. \n“How often do you watch something so original\, it changes the way you think about image construction itself?” Sophie Monks Kaufman\, Time Out \nThe screening on Sunday is sponsored by MALVERN BOOK COOPERATIVE \nShow Times\n*Film starts at advertised time*\nSaturday 8th March at 7.15pm\nSunday 9th March at 7.15pm\nVenue: Cinema
