Burnand \n“A one act little masterpiece” \nCox and Box is a one-act comic opera by Francis Cowley Burnand & Arthur Sullivan and is based on the 1847 farce\, Box & Cox. \nThis was Sullivan’s first successful comic opera\, written five years prior to his first opera with W. S. Gilbert. \nThe story centres on two lodgers\, one of whom works at night and the other during the day\, unwittingly sharing a room\, let by a cunning landlord. This works very well (at least for the landlord)\, until one of them has the day off and the two tenants meet in the room. \nPerformed by Mike Faulkner\, Ian Walton and Paul Thompson \nDido & Aeneas\nMusic by Henry Purcell Libretto by Nahum Tate \n“A monumental work in Baroque opera” \nDido and Aeneas is a short opera in three acts\, written by the English Baroque composer Henry Purcell with a libretto by Nahum Tate. DESCRIPTION:Legendary fantasy authors JRR Tolkien and CS Lewis were frequent visitors to the Malvern Hills around the middle of the 20th century and the distinctive landscape may have inspired features of Middle Earth and Narnia\, like the Giant’s Cave from the Hobbit and the Victorian gas lamps from The Lion\, the Witch & the Wardrobe. \nA century earlier\, authors Charles Darwin and Charles Dickens visited Malvern for the Water Cure and most of the treatment centres and guest houses still remain. \nThe Malvern Hills Literary Loop starts at the Mr. Tumnus bench in Priory Park and heads up past Knotsford House where Dickens stayed to Lewis’s former school Cherbourg House before pausing at the Lewis Memorial in Rosebank Gardens and following the gas lamps up to St. Ann’s Well cafe. \nAfter admiring the views around North Hill\, the trail descends to Alexandra Rd where Lewis’s close friend & biographer George Sayers lived\, opposite the former home of composer Edward Elgar. \nThe loop then heads up past Montreal House where Darwin stayed during his daughter’s treatment and past Lewis & Tolkien’s favourite pub The Unicorn Inn before passing the Hobbit door and down to Malvern Priory to find Anne Darwin’s grave and potentially the original Narnian gas lamp. \nDates and booking\nThe walks are available on many dates\, often with the option of two start times on the same day. The band has recorded five studio albums so far\, with their latest release\, entitled TRADITION II\, receiving critical acclaim upon its release in July 2022. SUMMARY:Music in the Park 2025
DESCRIPTION:Back for 2025\, join Malvern Town Council for an 18-week programme running throughout the summer months (with the exception of 6 July) that will see bands from around Worcestershire coming to play in the Priory Park Bandstand. There is something for everyone\, with many genres covered over the season including brass band\, jazz\, pop\, folk\, blues and many more. \nAll concerts run from 2.30pm – 4.30pm (except 17 August 2025\, when there will be an earlier start with an additional band at 1pm) and are free to attend. \nBring a rug or folding chair to sit on if you wish. It’s just a three-minute walk from the park to some of Great Malvern’s wide range of shops and cafes\, where you can purchase a drink\, lunch or treat to enjoy whilst listening to the music. DESCRIPTION:Legendary fantasy authors JRR Tolkien and CS Lewis were frequent visitors to the Malvern Hills around the middle of the 20th century and the distinctive landscape may have inspired features of Middle Earth and Narnia\, like the Giant’s Cave from the Hobbit and the Victorian gas lamps from The Lion\, the Witch & the Wardrobe. \nA century earlier\, authors Charles Darwin and Charles Dickens visited Malvern for the Water Cure and most of the treatment centres and guest houses still remain. \nThe Malvern Hills Literary Loop starts at the Mr. Tumnus bench in Priory Park and heads up past Knotsford House where Dickens stayed to Lewis’s former school Cherbourg House before pausing at the Lewis Memorial in Rosebank Gardens and following the gas lamps up to St. Ann’s Well cafe. \nAfter admiring the views around North Hill\, the trail descends to Alexandra Rd where Lewis’s close friend & biographer George Sayers lived\, opposite the former home of composer Edward Elgar. \nThe loop then heads up past Montreal House where Darwin stayed during his daughter’s treatment and past Lewis & Tolkien’s favourite pub The Unicorn Inn before passing the Hobbit door and down to Malvern Priory to find Anne Darwin’s grave and potentially the original Narnian gas lamp. \nDates and booking\nThe walks are available on many dates\, often with the option of two start times on the same day. DESCRIPTION:Legendary fantasy authors JRR Tolkien and CS Lewis were frequent visitors to the Malvern Hills around the middle of the 20th century and the distinctive landscape may have inspired features of Middle Earth and Narnia\, like the Giant’s Cave from the Hobbit and the Victorian gas lamps from The Lion\, the Witch & the Wardrobe. \nA century earlier\, authors Charles Darwin and Charles Dickens visited Malvern for the Water Cure and most of the treatment centres and guest houses still remain. \nThe Malvern Hills Literary Loop starts at the Mr. Tumnus bench in Priory Park and heads up past Knotsford House where Dickens stayed to Lewis’s former school Cherbourg House before pausing at the Lewis Memorial in Rosebank Gardens and following the gas lamps up to St. Ann’s Well cafe. \nAfter admiring the views around North Hill\, the trail descends to Alexandra Rd where Lewis’s close friend & biographer George Sayers lived\, opposite the former home of composer Edward Elgar. \nThe loop then heads up past Montreal House where Darwin stayed during his daughter’s treatment and past Lewis & Tolkien’s favourite pub The Unicorn Inn before passing the Hobbit door and down to Malvern Priory to find Anne Darwin’s grave and potentially the original Narnian gas lamp. \nDates and booking\nThe walks are available on many dates\, often with the option of two start times on the same day. Come and celebrate our vibrant community with fun\, food and friendship – there’s something for everyone. \nOrganised by Community Action Malvern in partnership with Malvern Civic Society\, there’s a wealth of activities and entertainment including cool modern jazz from West Coast Sound\, a performance by the 80-strong I-Sing Choir\, traditional Ukrainian singing and dancing\, a talk by our local transatlantic solo rowing superstar\, craft and charity stalls\, and lots of children’s activities\, including a Treasure Trail and Splat the Rat. \nBring your canine friend along to show off their looks and skills in our Dog Show at 11.30am. Classes include Waggiest Tail\, Most Adorable Pup\, Most Handsome Rescue and Most Obedient Dog. Or perhaps you Look like your Dog? Whatever class you enter\, you’ll be in with a chance to win Best in Show. \nSample some delicious food and drink options\, find out about local groups to join and meet your neighbourhood fire brigade and police officers. \nA great day out for all\, running 11.30am – 5pm. SUMMARY:Music in the Park 2025
DESCRIPTION:Back for 2025\, join Malvern Town Council for an 18-week programme running throughout the summer months (with the exception of 6 July) that will see bands from around Worcestershire coming to play in the Priory Park Bandstand. There is something for everyone\, with many genres covered over the season including brass band\, jazz\, pop\, folk\, blues and many more. \nAll concerts run from 2.30pm – 4.30pm (except 17 August 2025\, when there will be an earlier start with an additional band at 1pm) and are free to attend. \nBring a rug or folding chair to sit on if you wish. It’s just a three-minute walk from the park to some of Great Malvern’s wide range of shops and cafes\, where you can purchase a drink\, lunch or treat to enjoy whilst listening to the music.
