Having performed complete cycles of Haydn\, Mendelssohn and Bartók at the most prominent European venues\, including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam\, Vienna Konzerthaus and Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie\, the players have turned their attention to Beethoven and Britten. The first instalment of their Beethoven cycle was released in 2023\, and was endorsed by The Times as ‘a joy’. The series culminates in 2026–27\, in time for the 200th anniversary of Beethoven’s death. \nN.B. There has been a change of artists and programme for this date\, as a result of the Castalian Quartet having disbanded.

DESCRIPTION:Orchestra Pro Anima perform music covering the Baroque\, Classical and Romantic eras\, including a Mozart Piano Concerto and Vaughan Williams’ The Lark Ascending. \nOrchestra Pro Anima is directed from the violin by Michael Bochmann MBE\, with piano soloist Tim Sidford. \nProgramme\nCorelli Concerto Grosso in D major Op 6 No 4\nVivaldi Concerto for four violins in B minor RV580\nMozart Piano Concerto No 12 in A major K414\nChopin Ballade No 1 in G minor Op 23 (piano solo)\nVaughan Williams The Lark Ascending\nHolst Brook Green Suite H190 \nThe concert opens with a much-loved Concerto Grosso by Corelli in which the dialogue between the solo instruments and the orchestra is particularly telling. There follows a well-known Vivaldi Concerto in which the texture of the four violin solo parts is constantly varied. To complete the first half\, the fine pianist Tim Sidford is the soloist in a most charming\, intimate Mozart Piano Concerto. \nTim begins the second half with Chopin’s exquisite G minor Ballade\, a most poetic work in which virtuosity is at the service of art. The orchestra then returns\, with Michael Bochmann as soloist\, in Vaughan Williams’ famous\, highly evocative The Lark Ascending. This opera and ballet theatre has a long-standing heritage of top-quality opera productions\, and we are excited to bring it back to the UK. \nExperience the thrill of fiery passion\, jealousy\, and violence of 19th century Seville in Bizet’s most popular opera\, Carmen. \nCarmen follows the story of the downfall of Don José\, a naïve soldier who falls head over heels in love with Carmen\, a seductive\, free-spirited femme fatale. The infatuated Don José abandons his childhood sweetheart and neglects his military duties\, only to lose the fickle Carmen to the glamorous toreador Escamillo. \nThe music of Carmen has been widely acclaimed for the brilliance of its melodies\, enthralling atmosphere\, and orchestration\, as well as for the skill with which Bizet musically represented the emotions and suffering of his characters. \nThe Toreador Song is among the best known of all operatic arias. \nThe rich and colourful vigour of the gypsies’ scenes will have you on the edge of your seat\, and the vibrancy\, enthusiasm\, and intensity of the performances will reverberate long after the final curtain has fallen. \nSung in French with English Surtitles. \nRunning time: Approximately 2hrs 10mins (including 20min interval)
