Eternal Light brings together music of solace\, radiance\, and quiet exaltation\, performed by the forces of the Great Malvern Festival of Singing with orchestra\, in the soaring acoustic of Great Malvern Priory. \nAt the heart of the programme lies Fauré’s Requiem\, a work unlike any other setting of the Mass for the departed. Gentle\, luminous\, and profoundly humane\, Fauré’s vision is one of peace rather than judgement\, offering consolation through music of tender beauty and inward calm. \nVaughan Williams’s Five Mystical Songs bring expansive lyricism and spiritual ardour to words by George Herbert\, culminating in the exultant ‘Antiphon’\, where baritone soloist and chorus join in music of blazing affirmation. The sense of wonder continues in Parry’s Blest Pair of Sirens\, a towering masterpiece of English choral music whose surging lines and rich harmonies celebrate the mysterious power of song itself. \nThe programme also includes Mendelssohn’s beloved Hear My Prayer\, with its unforgettable plea ‘O for the wings of a dove’\, and Chris Maunu’s Silentium\, a striking contemporary meditation on stillness and awe\, offering a moment of hushed reflection within the larger arc of the evening. \nThe concert features the sublime soprano of Jennifer Clark\, and Roderick Williams OBE\, one of Britain’s most distinguished baritones\, and is conducted by Jeff Stewart. SUMMARY:Hanley Swan Village Show & Car Boot 2026
DESCRIPTION:The Hanley Swan Village Show has been running since August 1862\, when the first Hanley Castle Horticultural and Flower Show was organised by the gentry of Hanley Castle parish. The aim was ‘to encourage horticulture among the cottagers\, and to stimulate them to neatness and order not only in their gardens but their households’. \nOver a century-and-a-half later\, it still takes place each year in August\, but it is now organised by local volunteers. Entry is open to all amateurs living in or around the parish. \nStaging of entries takes place on Friday 28 August from 3pm to 5pm and on Saturday 29 August from 8.30am to 10am. The show is then closed between 10am and 1.30pm for judging\, before opening to the public from 1.30pm – 5pm. Awards are presented at 4pm and raffle prizes at 4.30pm. \nAccess to the car boot field is from 12pm onwards and costs £10 per car\, payable in cash on the day\, but sellers must pre-register by completing the online form no later than 5pm the day before the show (Friday) and must remain on site until 4pm on the show day. \nThere will also be a variety of stalls selling hand-made items\, plants and food. \nPlus\, Single Reeds\, a wind-based band from Malvern\, will be performing a range of music from light entertainment through to Big Band sounds\, popular light classical pieces and classic pop\, outside the village hall from 2pm. \nAdmission to the show is free.
