SUMMARY:It’s All Greek performed by Dame Siân Phillips and Alex Jennings
DESCRIPTION:Dame Siân Phillips and Alex Jennings star in It’s All Greek\, written and directed by David Stuttard. \nA woman longing for her lover; a wronged wife plotting her revenge; a squaddie traumatized by war. Love\, laughter\, tears\, and treachery. And just a little murder\, too. Whatever life brings us\, the ancient Greeks have the right words for it. As they navigate through youthful high jinks\, adult chaos\, and the preoccupations of old age\, their wit and wisdom are a road map for our modern age. \nDirected by writer-translator David Stuttard\, multi-award winners Dame Siân Phillips and Alex Jennings give voice to stories\, scenes\, and poems from ancient Greece\, which – profound or poignant\, fast moving\, funny\, or at times downright preposterous – help make sense of our lives today.

SUMMARY:On Voice and the Feeling of Truth (Malvern Festival of Ideas)
DESCRIPTION:Join novelist\, poet and playwright Owen Sheers as he concludes our weekend with readings and conversation around his attempts to move beyond a partial truth through engaging with ideas of hybridity\, lyricism and voice. \nIn this final session of the 2025 event\, Professor Owen Sheers will read from three of his recent works\, the verse-drama Pink Mist and the BBC film-poems The Green Hollow and To Provide All People. His reading will be interspersed with conversation about the creative processes involved in creating these works\, all three of which engage with ideas of hybridity\, lyricism and voice to try and move beyond a partial ‘knowing’ of the truth towards a fuller ‘feeling’ of it. Blending documentary and poetic devices\, Owen uses the voices of characters informed by multiple interviews to create communal works that address such subjects as the aftermath of conflict\, the Aberfan disaster\, and the NHS. The nature of such subjects is that the truth of individual experience at their core is often anonymised in more general public narratives. By shaping his writing around composite characters\, many voices and alternating perspectives\, Owen is able to write in counterflow to this anonymisation\, engaging rhythm\, rhyme and imagery to create a strangely intimate lyrical distance through which the gap between a reader and the experiences they are reading is\, paradoxically\, narrowed to great emotional effect. \nSuitable for: 12 years and up

SUMMARY:Behold Ye Ramblers
DESCRIPTION:‘Behold Ye Ramblers’ is the history of the struggle for ‘The Right To Roam’; the history of the Clarion Ramblers\, the British Workers’ Sports Federation\, the Rambling Association\, the R2R Campaign; and of all the pioneers and campaigners. \nThis is an entertaining celebration through word and songs of the history of rambling; we follow Walking-Class Hero\, George HB Ward\, and his fellow activists from the Clarion Ramblers campaigning for public access across Derbyshire’s moorlands; we explore open spaces and tell the story of how just 8% of the UK’s landscape is allowed to be rambled on today. \nFind out how this happened\, who fought for our Right to Roam and be entertained at the same time. \nA show for all to see and to be determined to be able to walk alone and with others! \nTo check ticket availability\, visit the Live and Local website.
