SUMMARY:Choreographies of Stimming (Performance Lecture) (FEAST)
DESCRIPTION:Neurodiversity is the natural variation of all human brains and minds. Stimming is repetitive actions to self-regulate\, self-stimulate\, or self-soothe\, bringing oneself into balance. Stimming is an important part of neurodivergent embodiment\, of bodily being with a different mind. \nIn this part performance\, part (not boring or confusing) lecture\, neuroqueer choreographer Dr Aby Watson demonstrates her sensory-seeking practice of stimprovisation whilst riffing on neurodivergence\, neuronormativity\, and stimming through a choreography of self-regulation that unfolds in the here and now. Expect a loop-like\, tactile\, rhythmic and repetitive performance of stimulating voice\, body\, and object that dives in with playful sensoriality and the true passion of a special interest. And hey\, maybe you learn something new too? Win win. \n‘Choreographies of Stimming’ is held in a relaxed environment. It manifests Aby’s interest in non-neuronormative knowledge exchange\, and is an experiment with neurodivergent-centred and multi-sensory modes of academic presentation. Made with support from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and The British Council\, this performance lecture was first performed at Británico Cultural for Encuentro de Artes Inclusivos in Lima\, Peru in October 2023. \nTickets: £8 plus booking fee (carers free) – book online at Ticketsource

SUMMARY:Malvern Hills Cultural Walk
DESCRIPTION:Legendary fantasy authors JRR Tolkien and CS Lewis were frequent visitors to Malvern and the Malvern Hills and the distinctive landscape is thought to have inspired many features of Middle Earth and Narnia\, including the Giant’s Cave from The Hobbit and the Victorian gas lamps from The Lion\, the Witch & the Wardrobe. \nYou’ll choose between two routes\, the Tolkien Trail & the Lewis Loop\, both of which are outlined below. \nThe Tolkien Trail follows the main ridge south from the Wyche Cutting\, over several summits to the Giant’s Cave\, which is said to have inspired Tolkien’s first book\, The Hobbit. The trail then returns north\, with optional stops at the Malvern Hills Hotel and/or the Kettle Sings Cafe before ending where it began. \nThe Lewis Loop begins in Priory Park in Great Malvern and heads past Malvern College and Cherbourg House\, where Lewis went to school\, before pausing at the Lewis Memorial in Rosebank Gardens. Next it follows Narnia’s gas lamps up Happy Valley past St. Ann’s Well Cafe to the summit of North Hill before dropping down to Alexandra Road in Malvern Link\, where Lewis’s biographer\, George Sayer\, and composer Sir Edward Elgar lived. After passing Lewis and Tolkien’s favourite pub\, The Unicorn Inn on Belle Vue Terrace\, the loop ends at Great Malvern Priory\, home to what’s believed to be the original gas lamp. \nWhichever walk you choose\, you’ll hear tales of literary legends whilst savouring the most stunning views in the West Midlands. \nDates and booking\nThe walks are available on many dates\, often with the option of two start times on the same day. SUMMARY:Book Talk & Signing: Annie Gray - The Bookshop\, The Draper\, The Candlestick Maker
DESCRIPTION:Leading food historian Dr Annie Gray will be at Malvern Book Cooperative to talk about\, and sign copies of\, her recently published book The Bookshop\, The Draper\, The Candlestick Maker: A History of the High Street. Annie takes us down the street and through the ages\, from medieval marketplaces to the purpose-built concrete precincts still standing today. Peeping inside the windows of tailors\, tearooms and grocers\, we explore everything from the toyshops of yesteryear – places where curiosities were sold for adults rather than children – to the birth of brands we still shop at today. \nTo reserve your ticket (£7)\, phone 01684 564788 or email enquiries@malvernbook.coop

For more information\, including prices\, availability and to book. visit the Malvern Hills Cultural Walks page on Airbnb.

SUMMARY:Elgar's Forgotten Songs
DESCRIPTION:Elgar wrote many songs throughout his career. Many of them are hardly known today\, but they are all of great beauty and interest\, and we are showcasing some of the finest of them in our concert which will feature soprano Valerie Sherlock and bass/baritone Kieran Sherlock. \nProviding a narrative which will once again place each song in the context of Elgar’s life\, the talk will demonstrate that the intriguing thing about Elgar’s songs is that in every case he chose the words very carefully to reflect the events of his own life\, his relationships and his mood. Therefore they must always be regarded as autobiographical and Richard Westwood-Brookes’s talk will highlight this. \nThe concert/talk is being staged thanks to the very generous sponsorship of The Elgar Society. \nThis talk will take place on Sunday 8 December 2024 at 11am and 2pm. With just 60 tickets available per recital\, this will not be an event to miss. \nThis event is free\, but normal admission charges apply for the venue. Booking is essential.
