SUMMARY:The Second Best Bed (Malvern Ink & Curtain Festival)
DESCRIPTION:Written by Avril Rowlands\, starring Liz Grand and directed by Chris Jaeger. \nWhen Shakespeare died\, he famously bequeathed his wife Anne Hathaway only one item – the second best bed. This superb one-woman play\, packed with both humour and pathos\, has received great critical acclaim since its first performance at the Swan Theatre in Worcester in 2012. \nLiz Grand stars as Anne Hathaway on the night of William Shakespeare’s funeral. The wake has finished and the mourners have all returned home\, leaving her to recall her life with the most talented playwright the world has ever known. Or was he? Did he write the plays? His widow would know if anybody did. Wouldn’t she? She would!!

SUMMARY:Mrs. Churchill – My Life with Winston (Malvern Ink & Curtain Festival)
DESCRIPTION:Liz Grand stars as Clementine Churchill in Kit Hunter’s play. \nWinston Churchill is quite possibly one of the most famous Englishmen that has ever lived. His inspirational leadership contributed to the Allied victory in the Second World War\, and his parliamentary career of over six decades ensured he was responsible for many momentous decisions. \nThey say that behind every great man\, there is a great woman. Was this true in the case of Churchill and his wife? What of Clementine\, his wife for 56 years? Did he bully her as he did so many other people? Was he as grumpy and irascible at home as he often was in Parliament? Given his strength and conviction\, did Clem have any influence on him at all? Or was she ‘the little lady at home’? \nAll these questions will be answered\, along with many more\, through Liz Grand’s superb\, moving\, sensitive and informative portrayal of Clementine Churchill. (Liz’s other current shows are The Second Best Bed and Where Is Mrs. Christie?)

SUMMARY:The Secret Life of Enid Blyton (Malvern Ink & Curtain Festival)
DESCRIPTION:Liz Grand stars as Enid Blyton in Kit Hunter’s play. \nAlmost everybody of a certain age has read an Enid Blyton book. She was loved by children (except her younger daughter who hated her) but vilified by the BBC\, teachers\, critics and librarians. She sold over 600 million books\, despite all her work being banned by the BBC and many libraries and schools for more than three decades. She was labelled a racist and accused of using such limited vocabulary that it actually hampered children’s reading progress. Her love-life was fascinating and she had numerous affairs\, including with her children’s nanny. She was a fan of golf\, enjoying the sport so much that she actually purchased a golf course near Swanage. When she died from dementia in 1968 aged 71\, her passing was lamented by millions of readers around the world. Liz Grand (previous credits include The Second Best Bed\, Where Is Mrs. Christie? and Mrs. Churchill – My life With Winston) plays this remarkable and controversial woman and brings her story to life.

SUMMARY:Where Is Mrs. Christie? (Malvern Ink & Curtain Festival)
DESCRIPTION:Liz Grand stars as Agatha Christie in Chris Jaeger’s play. \nAgatha Christie was one of the greatest and most popular thriller writers of all time and certainly the most prolific. In 1926\, she was herself at the centre of a mystery as perplexing as any of her novels\, a series of events that led to one of the largest and most extensive police hunts in history. Her crashed car was discovered in Surrey and the famous writer was missing\, presumed dead by many\, for eleven days. However\, she was located at a luxury hotel in Harrogate. She claimed then\, and consistently for the rest of the life\, that she was suffering from amnesia and remembered nothing of the incident. Neither the press nor the police believed her claim. \nActor Liz Grand explores whether Christie suffered from amnesia. Was it a publicity stunt? Or was there a darker secret at play? In true thriller style\, all will be revealed.

SUMMARY:Malvern Theatres Young Company: Brontë
DESCRIPTION:This summer\, the talented young actors of the Malvern Theatres Young Company return to the stage with Brontë\, Polly Teale’s powerful creative reimagining of the extraordinary and turbulent lives of the Brontë sisters. \nIn 1845\, their brother\, Branwell Brontë\, disgraced and consumed by addiction\, returns to the family home. As his descent into alcoholism and madness threatens to overwhelm the household\, his sisters Anne\, Charlotte\, and Emily strive to keep their world together\, finding escape and resilience in their writing. \nIn this enthralling literary detective story\, writer Polly Teale examines the fractious bonds between the Brontë siblings and the fierce creative drive that would leave a lasting legacy in English literature. First performed by the acclaimed Shared Experience theatre company fifteen years ago\, Brontë offers a compelling insight into the complex relationships\, passions\, and ambitions of three of Yorkshire’s most celebrated writers. \nDirected by local actor Toby Burchell\, this ambitious new production allows the talent and spirit of Malvern Theatres’ own vibrant Young Company to shine. \nShow times\nTuesday 5 August 2025\, 7pm\nWednesday 6 August 2025\, 2pm\nWednesday 6 August 2025\, 7pm\nThursday 7 August 2025\, 7pm\nFriday 8 August 2025\, 7pm\nSaturday 9 August 2025\, 2pm\nSaturday 9 August 2025\, 7pm
