SUMMARY:History of RAF Defford Walk
DESCRIPTION:A walk through Croome Park reveals the way in which RAF Defford changed the 18th century landscape created by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown. Along the way\, there are tales of an extraordinary airfield waiting to be told. \nThis secret airbase was where Radar was installed in the aircraft of the Telecommunications Research Establishment (TRE) and tested and developed to help win the Second World War. Along the way\, explore Victorian architecture\, Great Malvern Priory\, connections to composer Edward Elgar\, and sites celebrated through Malvern’s many blue plaques\, commemorating notable residents and visitors. \nWhether you’re a first-time visitor or a lifelong resident\, you’ll leave with a deeper appreciation for Malvern’s cultural and historical legacy. \nDates and times\nThe 90-minute tours operate every Saturday and Monday from April 2026 to October 2026\, except 13 July and 12 September\, starting at 10.30am from Malvern Tourist Information Centre on Church Street (contact: 01684 892289). \nAll walks are subject to guide availability. \nTickets\nThe cost is £7 for adults; 14 – 16 year olds go free. \nTickets are available online via TicketSource or at the Malvern Tourist Information Centre.
