SUMMARY:Meditation and Buddhism Class
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Adhisthana to meditate with others and develop your ability to work creatively with your mind. You can either learn to meditate from scratch and develop the foundations for a daily practice or join the regulars to build on what you know and discover how to apply yourself effectively in meditation. \nAs of December 2025\, classes are being held on Mondays from 7.30pm – 9.30pm and are open to participants of all levels of experience. Please note there is no class on 22 or 29 December 2025. \nYou are welcome to arrive 15 minutes before the start. You’ll be greeted at the entrance by someone who will direct you where to go and help you with any queries. \nThe class takes place in a room on the first floor and is\, as a consequence\, unfortunately not accessible. \nIn the first half of the session\, we meditate together; this is followed by a tea break. In the second half\, we learn about the teachings of the Buddha with the chance to engage in discussion and ask questions. \nThe class is led by a team of members of the Triratna Buddhist Order and those who are training for ordination. \nIf you would like more information\, you can call Adhisthana on 01531 641726 or email us (otherwise just turn up!).

SUMMARY:Ian Bradley - The Last Enchanted Places: The Spa Towns of Europe - Book Talk & Signing
DESCRIPTION:Be spa-stuck at this event with Ian Bradley who will guide us around the stunning architecture\, healing treatments and glorious cultures of the ancient spa towns of Europe. \nWith an abundance of natural springs and wells\, pure waters\, rich history and well-dressing event\, Malvern deservedly has a dedicated chapter in his Ian’s book\, and will be the focus of his talk. \nSpa towns have a tradition of being places of community and inspiration; they have evolved through the centuries to serve the modern quest for wellness\, de-stressing\, and slow tourism\, and The Last Enchanted Places issues a joyful message that we must treasure and protect Europe’s spa towns for their quirky charm and their indefinable magical quality\, making them among the last enchanted places in an increasingly disenchanted world. \nTickets: £7 – available online at Ticketsource or on 01684 368187 (entitles the ticketholder to £3 off the book at the event; one book per ticket) \nDoors open at 6.45pm ahead of the talk at 7pm.

SUMMARY:La Tulipe Noire (U) (Malvern French Film Centre)
DESCRIPTION:Alain Delon excels in the dual role of hero and villain in this lavish swash-buckler. \nGuillame de Saint Preuxin is a French Revolution-era count who leads a double life as the masked bandit ‘Black Tulip’\, who holds the surroundings of the village of Roussillon in fear. The poor people of the area respect him as a revolutionary Robin Hood-figure\, but when the Black Tulip is injured in a fight he persuades his brother to impersonate him and take on the role. When his brother uncovers the Count’s selfish motives it sparks conflict between them. \nExpertly choreographed fight scenes and sumptuous cinematography combine with director Christian-Jaques’ perfectionism and unwillingness to compromise\, which pushed Delon to his limits. He brings to life the different characters of the two brothers so well – one a tender flawed hero\, the other a cynical anti-hero – and they are edited together on screen so seamlessly that it is hard to believe they are being played by the same iconic actor. \nLa Tulipe Noire manages to straddle the notoriously difficult divide between serious drama and outright farce\, with plenty of light comedic touches and deft character performances\, to turn in a timeless classic. \nEnglsih title: The Black Tulip\nDirector: Christian-Jaques\nRelease date: 1964\nClassic swashbuckling adventure\nRunning time: 1hr 55mins\nCertificate: U\nFrench with English subtitles \nShow times\nSunday 22 March 2026\, 3.15pm\nSunday 22 March 2026\, 6.45pm

SUMMARY:Orchestra Pro Anima: The Lark Ascending\, Mozart & More
DESCRIPTION:Orchestra Pro Anima perform music covering the Baroque\, Classical and Romantic eras\, including a Mozart Piano Concerto and Vaughan Williams’ The Lark Ascending. \nOrchestra Pro Anima is directed from the violin by Michael Bochmann MBE\, with piano soloist Tim Sidford. \nProgramme\nCorelli Concerto Grosso in D major Op 6 No 4\nVivaldi Concerto for four violins in B minor RV580\nMozart Piano Concerto No 12 in A major K414\nChopin Ballade No 1 in G minor Op 23 (piano solo)\nVaughan Williams The Lark Ascending\nHolst Brook Green Suite H190 \nThe concert opens with a much-loved Concerto Grosso by Corelli in which the dialogue between the solo instruments and the orchestra is particularly telling. There follows a well-known Vivaldi Concerto in which the texture of the four violin solo parts is constantly varied. To complete the first half\, the fine pianist Tim Sidford is the soloist in a most charming\, intimate Mozart Piano Concerto. \nTim begins the second half with Chopin’s exquisite G minor Ballade\, a most poetic work in which virtuosity is at the service of art. The orchestra then returns\, with Michael Bochmann as soloist\, in Vaughan Williams’ famous\, highly evocative The Lark Ascending. The programme finishes with Holst’s lyrical Brook Green Suite\, the concluding Dance of which provides a most vibrant end to the concert. \nTickets\n£22 (Band A) and £17 (Band B) (students half-price and free entry for children aged 10 and under) – available from Malvern Tourist Information Centre in person and on 01684 892289 (until 5pm\, 21 March)\, from The Courtyard\, Hereford in person\, online and on 01432 340555\, and on the door from 2.15pm on the day of the concert

SUMMARY:Malvern Hills Literary Loop: Tolkien\, Lewis\, Darwin and Dickens
DESCRIPTION:Legendary fantasy authors JRR Tolkien and CS Lewis were frequent visitors to the Malvern Hills around the middle of the 20th century and the distinctive landscape may have inspired features of Middle Earth and Narnia\, like the Giant’s Cave from The Hobbit and the Victorian gas lamps from The Lion\, the Witch & the Wardrobe. \nA century earlier\, authors Charles Darwin and Charles Dickens visited Malvern for the Water Cure and most of the treatment centres and guest houses still remain. \nThe Malvern Hills Literary Loop starts at the Mr. Tumnus bench in Priory Park and heads up past Knotsford House where Dickens stayed to Lewis’s former school Cherbourg House before pausing at the Lewis Memorial in Rosebank Gardens and following the gas lamps up to St. Ann’s Well cafe. \nAfter admiring the views around North Hill\, the trail descends to Alexandra Rd where Lewis’s close friend & biographer George Sayer lived\, opposite the former home of composer Edward Elgar. \nThe loop then heads up past Montreal House where Darwin stayed during his daughter’s treatment and past Lewis & Tolkien’s favourite pub The Unicorn Inn before passing the Hobbit door and down to Malvern Priory to find Anne Darwin’s grave and potentially the original Narnian gas lamp. \nDates and booking\nThe walks are available on many dates\, often with the option of two start times on the same day. SUMMARY:The Spy Who Came in from the Cold
DESCRIPTION:For the first time ever\, a novel by John le Carré — the unquestioned master of the modern spy genre whose works include Tinker\, Tailor\, Soldier\, Spy and The Night Manager — is brought to life in a thrilling stage adaptation\, which comes to Malvern following a sold-out run at Chichester Festival Theatre and direct from the West End. \nBritish intelligence officer Alec Leamas is weary\, hardened\, and ready to come in from the cold. But when Control\, the Chief of the Circus\, presents one final mission — dangerous\, deceptive\, and deeply personal — Leamas agrees to stay in the game. Sent into enemy territory\, he finds his convictions tested and his defences breached by Liz Gold\, a quietly defiant librarian whose compassion threatens to thaw his frostbitten heart. And what of veteran spymaster George Smiley? What is his role in the operation? \nThis compelling new work written by David Eldridge (Beginning\, Middle) and directed by Jeremy Herrin (A Mirror\, People\, Places & Things) comes to Malvern for just one week. \nShow times\nWednesday 18 March 2026\, 2.30pm\nWednesday 18 March 2026\, 7.30pm\nThursday 19 March 2026\, 2.30pm\nThursday 19 March 2026\, 7.30pm\nFriday 20 March 2026\, 7.30pm\nSaturday 21 March 2026\, 2.30pm\nSaturday 21 March 2026\, 7.30pm

SUMMARY:Rebuilding (12A) (Borderlines Film Festival)
DESCRIPTION:Josh O’Connor delivers a restrained but astoundingly expressive performance as cowboy Dusty whose Colorado ranch has been devastated by wildfires. Thomas\, ‘Dusty’\, is shattered when his farmland is completely destroyed by fire. With nothing to call his own\, he winds up in a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) camp\, living in a trailer alongside others who have lost their homes. Adversity offers opportunities; Dusty manages to find community with his neighbours while reconnecting with his nineyear old daughter and ex-wife Ruby. Quiet and meditative for a neo-Western\, this is a moving portrait of resilience and human connection in the aftermath of loss\, against the backdrop of the magnificent Colorado landscape. \nDIRECTOR: Max Walker-Silverman\nSTARRING: Josh O’Connor\, Lily LaTorre\, Meghann Fahy\nUS\, 2025\n1 HOUR 36 MINUTES\nENGLISH \nShow times\nFriday 20 March 2026 at 5.00pm\nSaturday 21 March 2026 at 7.30pm

SUMMARY:Köln 75 (15) (Borderlines Film Festival)
DESCRIPTION:In 1970s Germany\, up-and-coming promoter Vera Brandes organises a concert for jazz pianist Keith Jarrett at the Cologne Opera. \nKöln 75 fictionalises the true story behind one of the best-selling jazz records of all time\, Keith Jarrett’s “Köln Concert” from 1975. The event almost failed to happen – before a formidable German teenager\, 18-year-old Vera Brandes\, who started her career as a concert promoter while still at school\, pulls out all the stops. SUMMARY:Tuner (15) (Borderlines Film Festival)
DESCRIPTION:In his first fiction feature\, Roher channels comedy\, romance and crime thriller around a gifted piano tuner’s meticulous skills. \nPromising musician Niki White (Leo Woodall) has hyperacusis\, a condition that turns any mildly loud sound into one that’s quite deafening. Wearing heavy duty headphones to muffle excess noise\, he has harnessed his acute hearing into a profession that affords some satisfaction: piano tuning. With his smooth-talking mentor Harry Horowitz (Dustin Hoffman)\, he visits the homes of wealthy clients for whom a piano is just an accessory. When Niki discovers his sensitivity to sound also gives him an aptitude for safe-cracking\, he embarks on a thrilling and heightened spiral of crime. \nDIRECTOR: Daniel Roher\nSTARRING: Leo Woodall\, Havana Rose Liu\, Lior Raz\, Jean Reno\, Dustin Hoffman\nCANADA/US\, 2025\n1 HOUR 49 MINUTES\nENGLISH \nShow times\nPlease note: Film starts at advertised time\nFriday 20 March 2026 at 7.30pm\nSaturday 21 March 2026 at 4.45pm

SUMMARY:Redoubt (12A) (Borderlines Film Festival)
DESCRIPTION:Denis Lavant (Holy Motors\, Beau Travail) gives an intensely physical performance in this tender allegory of survival. \nSet in a rural Swedish village at the height of the Cold War and based on real events\, Redoubt is punctuated with quotes from If War Comes – a civil defence manual issued to Swedish households during the era when fear of nuclear war with Soviet Russia was a daily concern. Through the seasons\, eccentric farm worker Karl-Göran Persson fortifies his modest home into a haven against nuclear Armageddon. Compulsively gathering scrap metal\, he casts it into the walls\, envisioning a fortress that will protect him and his neighbours\, but his efforts bewilder everyone except the local children. \nDIRECTOR: John Skoog\nSTARRING: Denis Lavant\, Agnieszka Podsiadlik\, Livia Millhagen\, Aron Skoog\nSWEDEN/DENMARK\, 2025\n1 HOUR 25 MINUTES\nSWEDISH + ENGLISH SUBTITLES \nShow times\nSunday 15 March 2026 at 6.30pm\nSaturday 21 March 2026 at 4.00pm
