DESCRIPTION:Come and explore the fascinating history and unique treasures of Great Malvern Priory from its Norman origins to the present day. Discover more about the glories of this architectural gem\, with its beautiful stained glass\, medieval tiles and misericords. \nThere are guided tours most Saturday mornings at 11am and occasionally at 2pm (or very occasionally at other times). Please check the Priory Church calendar to confirm that a tour is going ahead on the day of your visit. \nDonations are welcomed and all money from the tours goes towards the ongoing repairs and restoration of the Priory building and the medieval glass windows. \nIn addition to the scheduled Saturday tours\, groups tours are available by prior arrangement on any day between 9am and 5pm as long as the Priory is not being used for another event. For these tours\, a small charge of £5 per person is made. Please visit the Friends of Malvern Priory website for more information and booking details. \n

SUMMARY:Guided Tour of Madresfield Court
DESCRIPTION:Madresfield Court\, situated within the Madresfield Estate at the foot of the Malvern Hills\, is a moated stately home that has been in the Lygon family for over 900 years and is currently home to its 29th generation. \nThe house played a significant part in nurturing the Arts and Crafts movement and contains a fine collection of paintings\, furniture and ceramics.  It also has a rich history\, with both Edward Elgar and Evelyn Waugh being frequent visitors. \nThe house and beautiful grounds are open to welcome visitors at various times throughout the year. Access to the house and gardens is by guided tour only and tickets must be pre-booked online. \nThe Madresfield Estate also hosts several popular events throughout the year within the grounds of the Court.   \n2025 season details\nThe 2025 tour season at Madresfield Court runs from the end of April until the end of June. \nTours generally run on Wednesdays\, Thursdays and Fridays (with some exceptions). \nOn most days of operation\, four tours (one at 10.30am\, 11.30am\, 1.30pm and 2.30pm) will run\, with each tour taking a maximum of fifteen people aged 16 and over. Sadly\, the tours are not suitable for babies or children under 16 and are subject to accessibility restrictions. \nTickets are £17 per person and all visitors will have the chance to enjoy the gardens either before or after the house tour. \nNew for 2025\, refreshments can now be enjoyed in the newly refurbished Play Room. \nFor full details\, including booking terms and conditions\, to check that a tour is running on your chosen date and to book your place\, visit the Madresfield Court website. \nPhoto supplied by Madresfield Court.

DESCRIPTION:Entry by wristband \nBen Holder is the most acclaimed and exciting jazz violinist in the UK. His classical studies began at the age of six and were complemented by training at the Birmingham Conservatoire. An introduction to jazz came in his early teens – classic masters such as Benny Goodman\, Oscar Peterson and Stephane Grappelli – and led Ben to truly find his place as a musician. Ben possesses an innate sense of swing rhythm (something which often eludes classical players)\, breath-taking technical ability and true showmanship on stage. He offers flawless musicianship\, heaps of energy and personality and a visible passion for his craft. Ben’s various awards bear testimony to these abilities. Often playing across the UK\, Europe and further afield\, he is a first-call jazz violinist for many of the country’s top venues\, line-ups and studios. DESCRIPTION:Free entry \nMany of the songs Cate choose to put her stamp on belong to that great age of song sophistication\, coming from the pen of the masters of the ‘jazz age’. She does full justice to them\, their melodies caressing\, lyrics expressing\, reflecting on their subtleties and breathing new life into them. Cate is delighted to be accompanied by Dave Green (bass) and Dave Newton (piano). Growing up in Renfrewshire\, Scotland\, Newton had a musical upbringing with the piano trio sound of Peterson\, Tatum or Garner an ever-present feature in the Newton household. After graduating from Leeds College of Music in 1979 and working in the north of thecountry for a while\, he moved to London where he rapidly became a much sought after pianist teaming up with Alan Barnes\, guitarist Martin Taylor and saxophonist Don Weller. He has worked regularly with Carol Kidd\, Marion Montgomery\, Tina May\, Annie Ross\, Claire Martin and of course Stacey Kent. David Newton was voted best Jazz Pianist in the British Jazz awards for the thirteenth time in 2014 and was made a Fellow of Leeds College of Music in 2003.

SUMMARY:Rico’s Littlest Big Band  with Cia Tomasso (Upton Jazz Festival)
DESCRIPTION:Entry by wristband \nEnrico Tomasso is considered one of the top jazz trumpeters on the jazz scene and six times winner of best trumpet category in the British Jazz Awards. He playsthe top festivals and jazz clubs around the world\, having an exciting presence and dynamic personality on stage. His command of the instrument and broad stylistic ability place him in demand in the recording world. He met and was mentored by Louis Armstrong as a child and met and played with many more of the ‘Jazz Maestros’ on his journey. \nCia Tomasso steered her education towards music and jazz during secondary school and started sitting in with informal jazz sessions at 15. Her influence is from a really wide spectrum of listening which has resulted in a unique style\, singing with a joyful and relaxed feeling. Rico’s Littlest Big Band is a play on the description of The John Kirby Band of the late 30’s\, ‘The Biggest Little Band’. Rico has been playing these wonderful transcriptions for many years but now includes the vocal arrangements in the same engaging style as a showcase for Cia Tomasso’s wonderful interpretations. \nRobert Fowler and Trevor Whiting take on the clarinet and sax duties whilst the swinging rhythm section is Colin Good\, John Sutton and Jerome Davies.

Leading her own quartet featuring some of the UK’s finest musicians\, namely Dave Newton (piano)\, Dave Green (bass) and Steve Brown (drums)\, she released her latest album ‘Only A Year’ in 2022. And — like the first Gypsy jazz bands — FiddleBop’s repertoire is eclectic. Expect Gypsy-flavoured jazz drawn from pretty much all of the genre’s century-long history: get-up-and-dance jazz from the 1920s\, 1930s chilli-hot swing\, cool post-bop\, jazz-flavoured classic pop\, folk-jazz\, and the band’s own creations. All played and sung with Gypsy zing and passion. Based in mid-Wales since 2017\, the current line-up of FiddleBop features Jo Davies on Spanish guitar and vocals. She’s the rhythmic foundation of FiddleBop. Dave Favis-Mortlock features on violin and vocals\, Paul Stevens is FiddleBop’s keyboard whiz: rhythmic\, blues-soaked\, and soulful and Graeme Lamble is FiddleBop’s fretless bassist extraordinaire.

DESCRIPTION:Entry by wristband \nLeeds City Stompers originated in 2011 to play acoustic blues and early jazz and ragtime in the 1920s & 30s style. The band uses authentic instruments: a 1935 resonator guitar\, washboard\, drums and double bass to bring prohibition era music to life. They have played most major blues festivals and look forward to their first time in Upton. \nThe band comprise of Martyn Roper on guitar\, vocals\, kazoo and harmonica\, John Arnesen on drums\, washboard and vocals and Hugh Bradley on double bass and vocals.
