SUMMARY:Malvern Hills Literary Loop: Tolkien\, Lewis\, Darwin and Dickens
DESCRIPTION:Legendary fantasy authors JRR Tolkien and CS Lewis were frequent visitors to the Malvern Hills around the middle of the 20th century and the distinctive landscape may have inspired features of Middle Earth and Narnia\, like the Giant’s Cave from The Hobbit and the Victorian gas lamps from The Lion\, the Witch & the Wardrobe. \nA century earlier\, authors Charles Darwin and Charles Dickens visited Malvern for the Water Cure and most of the treatment centres and guest houses still remain. \nThe Malvern Hills Literary Loop starts at the Mr. Tumnus bench in Priory Park and heads up past Knotsford House where Dickens stayed to Lewis’s former school Cherbourg House before pausing at the Lewis Memorial in Rosebank Gardens and following the gas lamps up to St. Ann’s Well cafe. \nAfter admiring the views around North Hill\, the trail descends to Alexandra Rd where Lewis’s close friend & biographer George Sayer lived\, opposite the former home of composer Edward Elgar. \nThe loop then heads up past Montreal House where Darwin stayed during his daughter’s treatment and past Lewis & Tolkien’s favourite pub The Unicorn Inn before passing the Hobbit door and down to Malvern Priory to find Anne Darwin’s grave and potentially the original Narnian gas lamp. \nDates and booking\nThe walks are available on many dates\, often with the option of two start times on the same day. For more information\, including prices\, availability and to book. visit the Malvern Hills Literary Loop: Tolkien\, Lewis\, Darwin & Dickens page on Airbnb

If Ticketsource shows ‘sold out’\, more tickets may be available. \nPlease book in advance to avoid disappointment. Ten places are available on each walk: four are available to book through Malvern Tourist Information Centre either in person or on 01684 892289; the other six are available to book online at Ticketsource (small booking fee applies online). Any tickets for a Saturday walk unsold online by noon on Friday\, or tickets for a Monday walk unsold online by 8am on Monday\, will become available to purchase through Malvern Tourist Information Centre during opening hours. Please note tickets for 14 – 16 year olds can be booked only through Malvern Tourist Information Centre (not online) \nPrivate group walks may be available – enquire directly to the TIC. \nAccessibility\nDue to the content of the tours and the hilly nature of Malvern\, these walks are not suitable for children under 14 years\, nor for anyone with mobility issues. \nDogs\nSorry – no dogs are allowed\, except assistance dogs. \nAlternative tour\nIn addition to the standard tour described above\, some guides offer a specialist tour\, by arrangement\, for those with a particular interest in the arts: “The Culture and The Cure”. This walk\, for pre-booked groups only (minimum group size may apply)\, explores Malvern’s cultural connections alongside the history of the town as a centre for the controversial Water Cure. Writers\, artists and musicians have been attracted to Malvern for over a hundred years – hear their stories plus how this small Worcestershire town became a major spa. For more details regarding this bespoke tour\, please contact the Malvern Tourist Information Centre in the first instance. \nReviews\nRead the many five-star reviews on the Trip Advisor page for Great Malvern Heritage Walks.

SUMMARY:Meditation and Buddhism Class
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Adhisthana to meditate with others and develop your ability to work creatively with your mind. You can either learn to meditate from scratch and develop the foundations for a daily practice or join the regulars to build on what you know and discover how to apply yourself effectively in meditation. \nAs of December 2025\, classes are being held on Mondays from 7.30pm – 9.30pm and are open to participants of all levels of experience. Please note there is no class on 22 or 29 December 2025. \nYou are welcome to arrive 15 minutes before the start. You’ll be greeted at the entrance by someone who will direct you where to go and help you with any queries. \nThe class takes place in a room on the first floor and is\, as a consequence\, unfortunately not accessible. \nIn the first half of the session\, we meditate together; this is followed by a tea break. In the second half\, we learn about the teachings of the Buddha with the chance to engage in discussion and ask questions. \nThe class is led by a team of members of the Triratna Buddhist Order and those who are training for ordination. \nIf you would like more information\, you can call Adhisthana on 01531 641726 or email us (otherwise just turn up!).

SUMMARY:Tenbury Tales (Heritage Open Days)
DESCRIPTION:Tenbury Museum will feature informative special displays of people who contributed to the history of the town through their service or creative talents. \nMr Edward Goff\, who endowed the Victorian School which houses the museum\, will be one of the people featured in special displays of archival photographs and informative text. Other names will include James Cranston\, the designer of the town’s iconic Pump Rooms\, and Thomas Mantle\, a coal carver who tried to give Princess Victoria a carving as her carriage stopped to change horses at a local hotel. An odd link is Mr Goff’s endowment arose from a fortune amassed through becoming a coal merchant following a very poor childhood! \nFor more information on the local personalities featured\, visit the Heritage Open Days website. \nTimings\nFriday 11 September 2026: 10.30am – 1pm\nSaturday 12 September 2026: 10.30am – 1pm\nTuesday 15 September 2026: 10.30am – 1pm\nWednesday 16 September 2026: 10.30am – 1pm\nThursday 17 September 2026: 10.30am – 1pm\nFriday 18 September 2026: 10.30am – 1pm\nSaturday 19 September 2026: 10.30am – 1pm

In the action that followed\, the Royalist commander Major General Edward Massey was seriously wounded and the surviving Royalists were driven out of the town and north along the Worcester Road. \nThe successful attack allowed Parliamentary forces to approach Worcester from the west and was an important action in completing Cromwell’s investment of Worcester as a prelude to his assault and capture of the city. \nFor this event\, please ensure you book your free place in advance using the details on the Heritage Open Days website\, where you will also find more information about the event. \nTimings\nTuesday 15 September 2026: 7pm – 9pm

SUMMARY:Guided Tour of Great Malvern Station (Heritage Open Days)
DESCRIPTION:Great Malvern is fortunate to have one of the best preserved stations in the country; it has recently benefited from a major refurbishment. \nGreat Malvern station was opened by the Worcester and Hereford Railway in 1860 and the present buildings\, by architect Edmund Wallace Elmslie\, were completed in 1862. The Midland Railway and the London and North Western Railway collaborated on the construction cost; the solicitor\, Samuel Carter\, was also solicitor to both of these major companies. It was later absorbed by the Great Western Railway. \nLocal landowner Lady Emily Foley was a key sponsor of the building of the station. She had a waiting room made for her exclusive use at Great Malvern Station. \nThe station celebrated its 150th birthday on 23 May 2010 with the unveiling of a plaque and a special train. An additional part of this celebration was the reinstatement of some of the highly decorated lighting columns around the cab road at the front of the station. \nPlease ensure that you book your free ticket in advance for this event\, either for Saturday or Wednesday\, on Ticketsource; visit the Heritage Open Days website for further details. \nTimings\nSaturday 12 September 2026: 2pm\nWednesday 16 September 2026: 2pm
