SUMMARY:The Croft
DESCRIPTION:Original Theatre presents The Croft\, a thriller by Ali Milles\, directed by Philip Franks. \nThe past won’t be silenced. \nBased on a true highland story\, the play transports the audience to the remote Scottish Highlands as two women arrive at a former Crofters Hut in the deserted village of Coillie Ghille. SUMMARY:A New Kind of Wilderness (12A)
DESCRIPTION:On a modest farm in a Norwegian forest\, the Payne family live a deliberately isolated life\, aiming to be wild and free. Maria and Nik\, along with their four children – named Ulv\, Falk\, Freja and Ronja – are self-sufficient. They home-school their children and build a closely-knit family dynamic in harmony with the natural world around them. However\, when tragedy strikes the family\, it destabilises their idyllic world and compels them to forge a new path into modern society. \nDirected by Silje Evensmo Jacobsen\, this documentary film was an official selection at many 2024 film festivals. \nRunning time: 84 minutes

SUMMARY:Playhouse Creatures
DESCRIPTION:Colwall Players present Playhouse Creatures by April De Angelis \nThe play is set in 1669 – a bawdy and troublesome time. Theatres had just re-opened after 17 years of suppression under the Puritans and for the first time English actresses are seen on stage. \nApril De Angelis has taken five famous figures – including Nell Gwynn – and given us a fascinating look at the precarious lot of actresses at the time. It’s a moving and often comic account of the true lives of restoration actresses\, with some earthy language! \nDue to the content of the play\, we are advising that it is suitable for age 14 and over only\, and in recognition of the possible interest to older students who may be studying the play as part of a drama course\, we are extending our concessionary rate to under 19s. \nShow times\nThursday 29 May 2025\, 7.30pm\nFriday 30 May 2025\, 7.30pm\nSaturday 31 May 2025\, 7.30pm \nTicket prices\nAdults: £13\nStudents: £8 (under 19s)\nTickets available from mid-April via Ticketsource

SUMMARY:ESO String Orchestra - Elgar's Strings in Malvern (Elgar Festival 2025)
DESCRIPTION:The English String Orchestra\, conducted by Kenneth Woods\, is joined by Rosalind Ventris (viola). \nPerhaps no other orchestra has done as much to champion the incredible tradition of British music for strings as the legendary English String Orchestra\, whose recordings carry the music of England from Elgar to today to listeners worldwide. William Walton was perhaps the true heir of Elgar’s legacy\, and his Sonata for Strings is one of the highest peaks in the string orchestra literature. The programme begins with a set of short pieces that showcase Elgar’s genius for the miniature and moves on to works showcasing two of today’s most engaging and exciting composers\, Peter Fribbins and Ian Venables. Rosalind Ventris (viola) is the featured soloist.
