SUMMARY:Malvern Theatres Young Company: Brontë
DESCRIPTION:This summer\, the talented young actors of the Malvern Theatres Young Company return to the stage with Brontë\, Polly Teale’s powerful creative reimagining of the extraordinary and turbulent lives of the Brontë sisters. \nIn 1845\, their brother\, Branwell Brontë\, disgraced and consumed by addiction\, returns to the family home. As his descent into alcoholism and madness threatens to overwhelm the household\, his sisters Anne\, Charlotte\, and Emily strive to keep their world together\, finding escape and resilience in their writing. \nIn this enthralling literary detective story\, writer Polly Teale examines the fractious bonds between the Brontë siblings and the fierce creative drive that would leave a lasting legacy in English literature. First performed by the acclaimed Shared Experience theatre company fifteen years ago\, Brontë offers a compelling insight into the complex relationships\, passions\, and ambitions of three of Yorkshire’s most celebrated writers. \nDirected by local actor Toby Burchell\, this ambitious new production allows the talent and spirit of Malvern Theatres’ own vibrant Young Company to shine. \nShow times\nTuesday 5 August 2025\, 7pm\nWednesday 6 August 2025\, 2pm\nWednesday 6 August 2025\, 7pm\nThursday 7 August 2025\, 7pm\nFriday 8 August 2025\, 7pm\nSaturday 9 August 2025\, 2pm\nSaturday 9 August 2025\, 7pm

SUMMARY:The Worlds of J.R.R. Tolkien (Malvern Ink & Curtain Festival)
DESCRIPTION:The Worlds of J.R.R.Tolkien – The Places that inspired Middle-earth with John Garth \nThe landscapes of J.R.R Tolkien’s Middle-earth are much more than a backdrop to the action. They’re a living part of it\, utterly convincing and powerfully evocative. They derive much of their realism and depth from his personal connection with places he knew. Many claims have been advanced for locations supposed to have inspired him. But what were his real touchstones in England and Wales and how did they work their way into his novels? \nAward-winning Tolkien biographer John Garth takes us on a journey for the truth behind the myth. \nJohn Garth is known around the world for his award-winning writing on Tolkien’s life and work. His books Tolkien and the Great War and The Worlds of J.R.R. Tolkien are available in eighteen languages. He read English at St Anne’s College\, Oxford\, was a newspaper journalist for many years\, and is now affiliated with Oxford again as a member of Corpus Christ College Senior Common Room. He talks and teaches on Tolkien internationally.
