SUMMARY:Just Between Ourselves
DESCRIPTION:London Classic Theatre presents Just Between Ourselves by Alan Aykbourn. \nFive birthdays. Two unhappy marriages. One possessive mother. \nIt is 1976. Dennis tinkers in his garage\, cheerfully indifferent to wife Vera’s impending breakdown. Marjorie hovers in the background\, making tea and finding fault. Neil has planned a birthday surprise for his wife\, but Pam doesn’t share his enthusiasm\, preoccupied by frustrations of her own. \nIn perhaps his most emotionally charged play\, Alan Ayckbourn masterfully brings to life a world of hidden tensions and suppressed hostility. He expertly navigates the tightrope between comedy and tragedy\, guiding the audience towards a hilarious\, yet chilling finale. \nShow times\nTuesday 18 March 2025\, 7.30pm\nWednesday 19 March 2025\, 2.30pm\nWednesday 19 March 2025\, 7.30pm\nThursday 20 March 2025\, 7.30pm\nFriday 21 March 2025\, 7.30pm\nSaturday 22 March 2025\, 2.30pm\nSaturday 22 March 2025\, 7.30pm

SUMMARY:Hannay Stands Fast
DESCRIPTION:Our Star Theatre Company presents Hannay Stands Fast\, a thrilling sequel to John Buchan’s The 39 Steps. The play sees our dashing hero\, Richard Hannay\, back in the fray on a mission to thwart a new and deadly threat to his beloved England. SUMMARY:Levellers Collective
DESCRIPTION:After two highly acclaimed acoustic tours and albums in recent years\, the Levellers Collective are embarking on a new 17-date tour in Spring 2025 at theatres and venues around the country\, plus a live album & DVD. \nThe Collective live shows\, and albums\, arose after the Levellers decided to do something a bit different with their extensive back catalogue in 2018. Together with members of fellow Brighton group The Moulettes\, they went on to record two albums radically reworking their songs – with producer John Leckie (We The Collective) and Sean Lakeman (Together All The Way). \nThe new acoustic arrangements of those Levellers songs\, old and new\, can now also be seen and heard on a new live album & DVD which was recorded in 2023 at London’s iconic Hackney Empire. The recording captures the spirit of the Levellers on stage as never seen before as multiple cameras were positioned around the band for the making of the film and the result is a truly privileged vantage point.

SUMMARY:Malvern Hills Literary Loop: Tolkien\, Lewis\, Darwin & Dickens
DESCRIPTION:Legendary fantasy authors JRR Tolkien and CS Lewis were frequent visitors to the Malvern Hills around the middle of the 20th century and the distinctive landscape may have inspired features of Middle Earth and Narnia\, like the Giant’s Cave from the Hobbit and the Victorian gas lamps from The Lion\, the Witch & the Wardrobe. \nA century earlier\, authors Charles Darwin and Charles Dickens visited Malvern for the Water Cure and most of the treatment centres and guest houses still remain. \nThe Malvern Hills Literary Loop starts at the Mr. Tumnus bench in Priory Park and heads up past Knotsford House where Dickens stayed to Lewis’s former school Cherbourg House before pausing at the Lewis Memorial in Rosebank Gardens and following the gas lamps up to St. Ann’s Well cafe. \nAfter admiring the views around North Hill\, the trail descends to Alexandra Rd where Lewis’s close friend & biographer George Sayers lived\, opposite the former home of composer Edward Elgar. \nThe loop then heads up past Montreal House where Darwin stayed during his daughter’s treatment and past Lewis & Tolkien’s favourite pub The Unicorn Inn before passing the Hobbit door and down to Malvern Priory to find Anne Darwin’s grave and potentially the original Narnian gas lamp. \nDates and booking\nThe walks are available on many dates\, often with the option of two start times on the same day. SUMMARY:Motherboard (15) PREVIEW (Borderlines Film Festival)
DESCRIPTION:DIRECTOR: Victoria Mapplebeck\nSTARRING: Victoria Mapplebeck\, Jim Mapplebeck\nUK\, 2024\,\n1 HOUR 30 MINUTES\,\nENGLISH \nFinding herself single\, pregnant\, and broke at 38\, BAFTA award-winning director Victoria Mapplebeck turned the camera on herself. \nRecording hundreds of hours of footage through 20 years\, she documents her own life and that of her son Jim\, from the thumbsup he gave her during her first scan\, to his first day at college. Intimate and engagingly frank\, she records moments of sheer joy: holidays\, birthdays\, Jim’s love of singing and dancing as he grows into an articulate and funny individual. But there’s adversity to navigate too: breast cancer\, the pandemic\, absent fathers\, late teens and the pitfalls they bring. \nThis celebration of messy lives and solo motherhood is proof that epic journeys can begin and end at home. \nPreview courtesy of Tull Stories \nShow Times\n*Film starts at advertised time*\nMonday 10th March at 4pm – FORUM\nSaturday 15th March at 7pm – STUDIO ONE

DESCRIPTION:DIRECTOR: Cécile Embleton\, Alys Tomlinson\nUK\, 2024\,\n1 HOUR 31 MINUTES\,\nBELARUSIAN/FRENCH/ENGLISH + ENGLISH SUBTITLES \nThis visually stunning documentary about an Orthodox nun\, filmed largely in black and white\, gradually overturns our preconceptions. \nWe first encounter Vera in the hidden Belarusian monastery where she has sought refuge from her precarious past for twenty years. Her face\, set off by her austere black garb\, is strikingly ageless and timeless. She has an incredible affinity with horses. But we learn that she faces deep inner conflict. Now\, she must confront her past and trust her instincts to find the liberation she desires. \nEmbleton and Tomlinson’s extraordinary documentary feature debut lends Vera the space to tell her story of redemption\, as she embarks on a spiritual journey of self-realisation and acceptance. \n“this transfixingly beautiful film is …a must for festivals…” Jonathan Romney\, Screen Daily \nGrierson Award for Best Documentary\, BFI London Film Festival 2024 \nPreview courtesy of Indox \nShow Times\n*Film starts at advertised time*[NL[Wednesday 12th March at 4pm – CINEMA\nSaturday 15th March at 4.30pm – STUDIO ONE

SUMMARY:Talk: Laura Knight's Theatre - Performance\, People and Place
DESCRIPTION:The Dame Laura Knight Society presents an illustrated talk by Professor Emeritus Claire Cochrane. \nLaura Knight’s extraordinarily capacious concept of theatre led to the creation of art that tried to capture not only the diversity of different forms of performance\, but also the working environments of where and how performance is made. In exploring examples of that diversity\, this talk will also focus on the key personalities who were instrumental in giving Knight access — in particular Sir Barry Jackson\, her friend for over five decades and the founder of the Birmingham Repertory Company and the Malvern Festival. \nTickets: £7 (members) / £10 (non-members) on the door \nRefreshments will be available at the talk.

For more information\, including prices\, availability and to book. visit the Malvern Hills Literary Loop: Tolkien\, Lewis\, Darwin & Dickens page on Airbnb.
