SUMMARY:Tenebrae – Spanish Glories (Autumn in Malvern Festival)
DESCRIPTION:Lauded as ‘phenomenal’ (The Times) and ‘devastatingly beautiful’ (Gramophone Magazine)\, award-winning choir Tenebrae\, under the direction of Nigel Short\, is one of the world’s leading vocal ensembles and is renowned for its passion and precision. The choir has earned international acclaim for its interpretations of choral music from the Renaissance through to contemporary masterpieces and is back at Great Malvern Priory in 2026 after its sell-out concert last year. This year\, the programme features glories of the Spanish Renaissance\, centring on Tomás Luis de Victoria’s Requiem Mass. This masterpiece is one of a handful of large-scale works which enjoys mainstream appeal in the 21st century and for many\, it represents what Renaissance polyphony is\, what it sounds and feels like\, and how expressive it can be. The programme also features the captivating Versa est in Luctum by Victoria’s contemporary Alonso Lobo. \nProgramme\nAlonso Lobo Versa est in Luctum\nTomás Luis de Victoria Tenebrae Responsories and Lamentations\nTomás Luis de Victoria Requiem Mass (1605) \nTickets\nVarious prices\, depending on position – available to book via the Malvern Theatres website (please note\, however\, that the event takes place at Great Malvern Priory)

SUMMARY:Exhibition: Romancing the 18th Century from Rococo to Stage
DESCRIPTION:Exhibition opens Friday 29 May and runs until Saturday 26 September 2026 \nIn collaboration with the Malvern Theatre Players\, this exhibition will combine the museum’s collection with costume. \nWith the recent success of other exhibitions at the V&A focusing on Mary Antoinette\, both the real woman and the 2006 film\, we take a closer at look at why this period is so often romanticised. \nFrom extreme silhouette to powered wigs\, why can’t we get enough of 18th century fashion? \nThe Museum of Fashion Malvern is open every Friday and Saturday\, 10am – 4pm.

SUMMARY:Meditation and Buddhism Class
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Adhisthana to meditate with others and develop your ability to work creatively with your mind. You can either learn to meditate from scratch and develop the foundations for a daily practice or join the regulars to build on what you know and discover how to apply yourself effectively in meditation. \nAs of December 2025\, classes are being held on Mondays from 7.30pm – 9.30pm and are open to participants of all levels of experience. Please note there is no class on 22 or 29 December 2025. \nYou are welcome to arrive 15 minutes before the start. You’ll be greeted at the entrance by someone who will direct you where to go and help you with any queries. \nThe class takes place in a room on the first floor and is\, as a consequence\, unfortunately not accessible. \nIn the first half of the session\, we meditate together; this is followed by a tea break. In the second half\, we learn about the teachings of the Buddha with the chance to engage in discussion and ask questions. \nThe class is led by a team of members of the Triratna Buddhist Order and those who are training for ordination. \nIf you would like more information\, you can call Adhisthana on 01531 641726 or email us (otherwise just turn up!).

SUMMARY:Great Malvern Heritage Walk
DESCRIPTION:About the walk\nDiscover the rich heritage of one of England’s most charming spa towns\, famed for its invigorating Water Cure. \nJoin one of Malvern Civic Society’s volunteer guides to trace the town’s evolution\, from a 19th century spa destination\, to its role in World War II as an important centre for secret radar development. Along the way\, explore Victorian architecture\, Great Malvern Priory\, connections to composer Edward Elgar\, and sites celebrated through Malvern’s many blue plaques\, commemorating notable residents and visitors. \nWhether you’re a first-time visitor or a lifelong resident\, you’ll leave with a deeper appreciation for Malvern’s cultural and historical legacy. \nDates and times\nThe 90-minute tours operate every Saturday and Monday from April 2026 to October 2026\, except 13 July and 12 September\, starting at 10.30am from Malvern Tourist Information Centre on Church Street (contact: 01684 892289). \nAll walks are subject to guide availability. \nTickets\nThe cost is £7 for adults; 14 – 16 year olds go free. \nTickets are available online via TicketSource or at the Malvern Tourist Information Centre. Ten places are available on each walk: four are available to book through Malvern Tourist Information Centre either in person or on 01684 892289; the other six are available to book online at Ticketsource (small booking fee applies online). Any tickets for a Saturday walk unsold online by noon on Friday\, or tickets for a Monday walk unsold online by 8am on Monday\, will become available to purchase through Malvern Tourist Information Centre during opening hours. Please note tickets for 14 – 16 year olds can be booked only through Malvern Tourist Information Centre (not online) \nPrivate group walks may be available – enquire directly to the TIC. \nAccessibility\nDue to the content of the tours and the hilly nature of Malvern\, these walks are not suitable for children under 14 years\, nor for anyone with mobility issues. \nDogs\nSorry – no dogs are allowed\, except assistance dogs. \nAlternative tour\nIn addition to the standard tour described above\, some guides offer a specialist tour\, by arrangement\, for those with a particular interest in the arts: “The Culture and The Cure”. Writers\, artists and musicians have been attracted to Malvern for over a hundred years – hear their stories plus how this small Worcestershire town became a major spa. For more details regarding this bespoke tour\, please contact the Malvern Tourist Information Centre in the first instance. \nReviews\nRead the many five-star reviews on the Trip Advisor page for Great Malvern Heritage Walks.

SUMMARY:Malvern Concert Club: The King’s Singers
DESCRIPTION:The King’s Singers have set the gold standard in a cappella singing on the world’s greatest stages for more than 55 years. They are renowned for their unrivalled technique\, musicianship and versatility\, which derive from the group’s rich heritage and its drive to bring an extraordinary range of new and unique works\, collaborations and recordings to life. The King’s Singers’ extensive discography has led to numerous awards including two Grammys\, an Emmy and a place in Gramophone magazine’s inaugural Hall of Fame. \nArtists\nPeter Hicks countertenor\nEdward Button countertenor\nJulian Gregory tenor\nJoseph Edwards baritone\nNick Ashby baritone\nPiers Connor Kennedy bass \nProgramme\nSuch Stuff As Dreams Are Made On \nThe Romantic impulse spread like wildfire through Europe during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Lieder\, chansons and part songs – imbued with musical richness – became vehicles for the deepest expressions of human feeling\, desire and fantasy. This programme pays tribute to many of the greatest European composers of Romantic vocal music from that age: extraordinary storytellers who include Sir Edward Elgar and Vaughan Williams in England\, Hugo Alfvén in Sweden\, Fanny and Felix Mendelssohn in Germany\, Schubert in Austria\, and Debussy\, Ravel and Saint-Saëns in France. The King’s Singers honour their collective imagination and brave emotional vulnerability by creating a magical journey that explores some of their most compelling thoughts on life\, love\, nature\, death\, and even the supernatural. \nTickets\nIndividual concert tickets can be purchased via the Malvern Theatres website; season-long memberships are also available \nPhoto © Benjamin Ealovega

SUMMARY:Lived Experiences of Malvern (Heritage Open Days)
DESCRIPTION:As part of a living histories project\, local people have produced an artistic representation of what it means to them to be living in the Malvern area. This will be a visual record of the living history of Guarlford and the surrounding district. \nThis project invited local residents with no previous artistic experience to learn different techniques to communicate their own individual thoughts and feelings about the local environment. In just 12 weeks\, under tuition\, the budding artists have created a varied display of art which will be on view in the lovely old Guarlford Village Hall. This building has been recently renovated and now has a wonderful light and airy room\, perfect for both creating and viewing works of art. Guides will be on hand to welcome visitors and answer any questions about this interesting old building which dates back to 1870 and was formerly used as a malt house. \nThe cafe will be open alongside the display serving a range of homemade cakes and drinks. \nFor full details\, visit the Heritage Open Days website. \nTimings\nSunday 20 September 2026: 2pm – 5pm

SUMMARY:Malvern Hills Literary Loop: Tolkien\, Lewis\, Darwin and Dickens
DESCRIPTION:Legendary fantasy authors JRR Tolkien and CS Lewis were frequent visitors to the Malvern Hills around the middle of the 20th century and the distinctive landscape may have inspired features of Middle Earth and Narnia\, like the Giant’s Cave from The Hobbit and the Victorian gas lamps from The Lion\, the Witch & the Wardrobe. \nA century earlier\, authors Charles Darwin and Charles Dickens visited Malvern for the Water Cure and most of the treatment centres and guest houses still remain. \nThe Malvern Hills Literary Loop starts at the Mr. Tumnus bench in Priory Park and heads up past Knotsford House where Dickens stayed to Lewis’s former school Cherbourg House before pausing at the Lewis Memorial in Rosebank Gardens and following the gas lamps up to St. Ann’s Well cafe. \nAfter admiring the views around North Hill\, the trail descends to Alexandra Rd where Lewis’s close friend & biographer George Sayer lived\, opposite the former home of composer Edward Elgar. \nThe loop then heads up past Montreal House where Darwin stayed during his daughter’s treatment and past Lewis & Tolkien’s favourite pub The Unicorn Inn before passing the Hobbit door and down to Malvern Priory to find Anne Darwin’s grave and potentially the original Narnian gas lamp. \nDates and booking\nThe walks are available on many dates\, often with the option of two start times on the same day.
For more information\, including prices\, availability and to book. visit the Malvern Hills Literary Loop: Tolkien\, Lewis\, Darwin & Dickens page on Airbnb
