SUMMARY:Daniel Tong at 50: Beethoven Weekend
DESCRIPTION:This immersive weekend at Hellens Manor offers the unique experience to hear all of Beethoven’s major chamber works with piano – violin sonatas\, cello sonatas and piano trios – in six concerts\, performed by three of Britain’s leading chamber players. \nAs well as being a great composer\, Beethoven was a brilliant pianist and performed all of his piano parts himself until deafness prevented him from playing in public for the final part of his career. Therefore\, through these works\, an insight is glimpsed into Beethoven’s unique and ground-breaking genius as it emerged through his chosen instrument and his own musicianship. From the magnificent Op. 1 piano trios with which he announced himself to the Viennese public\, through the Spring and Kreutzer sonatas to the Ghost and Archduke trios\, every aspect of Beethoven’s musical persona is on show in these chamber works. \nFor more information and ticket details\, visit the Hellens Manor website.

SUMMARY:Hannah James & Toby Kuhn
DESCRIPTION:Malvern Cube is excited to announce the return of Hannah and Toby. Hannah has played in Malvern several times before\, having brought her solo show ‘Jigdoll’ to the town\, as well as performing here with her harmony vocal trio Lady Maisery. \nIn a journey through sound\, texture\, emotion and rhythm\, Hannah and Toby explore the paths of growth\, discovery\, darkness and light\, navigating the dialogue of cello\, voice\, accordion and foot percussion in new and unexpected ways. Effortlessly blending\, the pair play and dance through a series thoughtful tunes\, soulful songs and joyful set-pieces in which Hannah’s vocal mastery is underpinned by Toby’s unorthodox delivery\, weaving intricate layers of harmony and melody together to the beat and swish of percussive dance. \nDoors and bar open at 7pm\, followed by show at 7.30pm.

SUMMARY:Malvern Hills Literary Loop: Tolkien\, Lewis\, Darwin & Dickens
DESCRIPTION:Legendary fantasy authors JRR Tolkien and CS Lewis were frequent visitors to the Malvern Hills around the middle of the 20th century and the distinctive landscape may have inspired features of Middle Earth and Narnia\, like the Giant’s Cave from the Hobbit and the Victorian gas lamps from The Lion\, the Witch & the Wardrobe. \nA century earlier\, authors Charles Darwin and Charles Dickens visited Malvern for the Water Cure and most of the treatment centres and guest houses still remain. \nThe Malvern Hills Literary Loop starts at the Mr. Tumnus bench in Priory Park and heads up past Knotsford House where Dickens stayed to Lewis’s former school Cherbourg House before pausing at the Lewis Memorial in Rosebank Gardens and following the gas lamps up to St. Ann’s Well cafe. \nAfter admiring the views around North Hill\, the trail descends to Alexandra Rd where Lewis’s close friend & biographer George Sayers lived\, opposite the former home of composer Edward Elgar. \nThe loop then heads up past Montreal House where Darwin stayed during his daughter’s treatment and past Lewis & Tolkien’s favourite pub The Unicorn Inn before passing the Hobbit door and down to Malvern Priory to find Anne Darwin’s grave and potentially the original Narnian gas lamp. \nDates and booking\nThe walks are available on many dates\, often with the option of two start times on the same day. For more information\, including prices\, availability and to book. visit the Malvern Hills Literary Loop: Tolkien\, Lewis\, Darwin & Dickens page on Airbnb.

SUMMARY:Hejira – Celebrating Joni Mitchell
DESCRIPTION:‘Hejira’ is a seven-piece band formed to celebrate and honour the masterpiece works of Joni Mitchell\, predominantly from the late 1970s. Having released the albums The Hissing of Summer Lawns\, Hejira\, Don Juan’s Reckless Daughter and Mingus (considered to be her ‘jazz period’)\, Mitchell then toured briefly with a band formed from the crème de la crème of contemporaneous jazz musicians (Metheny\, Mays\, Brecker\, Pastorius and Alias). The tour was recorded\, producing the outstanding live album Shadows And Light; it is from this album that the band Hejira is drawing the body of its repertoire. \nFeaturing highly experienced jazz musicians\, including legendary guitarist Pete Oxley\, Hejira is fronted by the brilliant Hattie Whitehead. Hattie has masterfully recreated the poise\, power and beauty of Joni Mitchell’s vocals while also playing guitar in Joni’s unique style. Audiences can expect an evening filled with Mitchell’s greatest works\, including Amelia\, Woodstock\, A Case Of You\, Song For Sharon\, Edith And The Kingpin\, and more.
