SUMMARY:Malvern Hills Literary Loop: Tolkien\, Lewis\, Darwin and Dickens
DESCRIPTION:Legendary fantasy authors JRR Tolkien and CS Lewis were frequent visitors to the Malvern Hills around the middle of the 20th century and the distinctive landscape may have inspired features of Middle Earth and Narnia\, like the Giant’s Cave from The Hobbit and the Victorian gas lamps from The Lion\, the Witch & the Wardrobe. \nA century earlier\, authors Charles Darwin and Charles Dickens visited Malvern for the Water Cure and most of the treatment centres and guest houses still remain. \nThe Malvern Hills Literary Loop starts at the Mr. Tumnus bench in Priory Park and heads up past Knotsford House where Dickens stayed to Lewis’s former school Cherbourg House before pausing at the Lewis Memorial in Rosebank Gardens and following the gas lamps up to St. Ann’s Well cafe. \nAfter admiring the views around North Hill\, the trail descends to Alexandra Rd where Lewis’s close friend & biographer George Sayer lived\, opposite the former home of composer Edward Elgar. \nThe loop then heads up past Montreal House where Darwin stayed during his daughter’s treatment and past Lewis & Tolkien’s favourite pub The Unicorn Inn before passing the Hobbit door and down to Malvern Priory to find Anne Darwin’s grave and potentially the original Narnian gas lamp. \nDates and booking\nThe walks are available on many dates\, often with the option of two start times on the same day. For more information\, including prices\, availability and to book. visit the Malvern Hills Literary Loop: Tolkien\, Lewis\, Darwin & Dickens page on Airbnb

SUMMARY:Meditation and Buddhism Class
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Adhisthana to meditate with others and develop your ability to work creatively with your mind. You can either learn to meditate from scratch and develop the foundations for a daily practice or join the regulars to build on what you know and discover how to apply yourself effectively in meditation. \nAs of December 2025\, classes are being held on Mondays from 7.30pm – 9.30pm and are open to participants of all levels of experience. Please note there is no class on 22 or 29 December 2025. \nYou are welcome to arrive 15 minutes before the start. You’ll be greeted at the entrance by someone who will direct you where to go and help you with any queries. \nThe class takes place in a room on the first floor and is\, as a consequence\, unfortunately not accessible. \nIn the first half of the session\, we meditate together; this is followed by a tea break. In the second half\, we learn about the teachings of the Buddha with the chance to engage in discussion and ask questions. \nThe class is led by a team of members of the Triratna Buddhist Order and those who are training for ordination. \nIf you would like more information\, you can call Adhisthana on 01531 641726 or email us (otherwise just turn up!).

SUMMARY:Jon Gomm
DESCRIPTION:Jon Gomm is a singer-songwriter and acoustic solo performer based in Yorkshire\, known for his once-seen-never-forgotten virtuoso guitar style (in 2020 voted ‘Best Acoustic Guitarist In The World’ in the largest online poll of its type\, conducted by MusicRadar/Guitar World). This involves slapping\, tapping and retuning as he plays\, creating a huge\, multi-layered sound filled with bass\, drums and virtually orchestral depth and complexity from a single guitar. \nHis songs are frequently deeply emotive\, whether with or without his soft\, affecting voice. Plus\, Gomm’s live performances are always intimate and powerful\, though also imbued with his natural north-of-England wit and self-deprecation. \nDoors open at 7.30pm; music starts at 8pm. \nTickets: £24.39 including booking fee – available online at Ticketsource
