SUMMARY:Ben Ottewell of Gomez (Plus Support)
DESCRIPTION:Ben Ottewell is a British musician best known as the gravelly-voiced frontman of the indie rock band Gomez. Hailing from Chesterfield\, England\, Ottewell started his musical journey at a young age\, inspired by his father’s eclectic record collection. In 1996\, he co-founded Gomez with Ian Ball\, Tom Gray\, Paul Blackburn\, and Olly Peacock while studying at university in Sheffield. \nGomez quickly gained recognition with their debut album\, Bring It On\, released in 1998\, which won the Mercury Music Prize. Ottewell’s distinctive vocals and song-writing were integral to the band’s unique sound\, noted for its blend of blues\, folk\, and rock elements. The band went on to release several critically acclaimed albums\, including Liquid Skin (1999) and In Our Gun (2002). \nThroughout Gomez’s career\, Ottewell’s soulful voice and introspective lyrics resonated with fans\, earning him a dedicated following. His solo career has seen him explore a more stripped-down acoustic sound\, making the most of his raw talent and emotive storytelling. In 2011\, Ottewell released his debut solo album\, Shapes & Shadows\, which followed by Rattlebag in 2014 and A Man Apart three years after that. \nWith a career spanning nearly three decades\, Ben Ottewell continues to captivate audiences with his powerful performances and evocative song-writing\, solidifying his status as one of the most distinctive voices in British rock music.

SUMMARY:Malvern Hills Literary Loop: Tolkien\, Lewis\, Darwin & Dickens
DESCRIPTION:Legendary fantasy authors JRR Tolkien and CS Lewis were frequent visitors to the Malvern Hills around the middle of the 20th century and the distinctive landscape may have inspired features of Middle Earth and Narnia\, like the Giant’s Cave from the Hobbit and the Victorian gas lamps from The Lion\, the Witch & the Wardrobe. \nA century earlier\, authors Charles Darwin and Charles Dickens visited Malvern for the Water Cure and most of the treatment centres and guest houses still remain. \nThe Malvern Hills Literary Loop starts at the Mr. Tumnus bench in Priory Park and heads up past Knotsford House where Dickens stayed to Lewis’s former school Cherbourg House before pausing at the Lewis Memorial in Rosebank Gardens and following the gas lamps up to St. Ann’s Well cafe. \nAfter admiring the views around North Hill\, the trail descends to Alexandra Rd where Lewis’s close friend & biographer George Sayers lived\, opposite the former home of composer Edward Elgar. \nThe loop then heads up past Montreal House where Darwin stayed during his daughter’s treatment and past Lewis & Tolkien’s favourite pub The Unicorn Inn before passing the Hobbit door and down to Malvern Priory to find Anne Darwin’s grave and potentially the original Narnian gas lamp. \nDates and booking\nThe walks are available on many dates\, often with the option of two start times on the same day. For more information\, including prices\, availability and to book. visit the Malvern Hills Literary Loop: Tolkien\, Lewis\, Darwin & Dickens page on Airbnb.

SUMMARY:An Audience with Lucy Worsley on Jane Austen
DESCRIPTION:Following the success of her sold-out Agatha Christie tour\, acclaimed historian Lucy Worsley\, familiar to many from her TV appearances\, leads us into the life of one of English literature’s most cherished figures. \nFor these beautifully-illustrated live talks\, Lucy invites audiences to step into the world of Jane Austen\, the beloved author of timeless classics including Pride and Prejudice\, Sense and Sensibility and Persuasion. \nBy examining the houses\, places and possessions that mattered to Austen\, Lucy takes a fascinating look at what home meant to Jane and to the women like her who populate her novels. Austen famously lived a ‘life without incident’\, but with new research and insights Lucy uncovers a passionate woman who fought for her freedom – a woman who\, far from being a lonely spinster\, in fact had at least five marriage prospects\, but in the end refused to settle for anything less than Mr Darcy.
