SUMMARY:Mosey around Mathon (Malvern Walking Festival)
DESCRIPTION:This is a wonderful\, undulating meander in West Malvern and Mathon\, crossing over ridges of Silurian limestone and valleys of Silurian Shale. We pass Hay Slad Spot\, one of the most powerful springs on the hills and an opportunity to fill our water bottles with the fantastic spring water of which Malvern is justifiably proud. 6 stiles and up down of 1\,440 feet. \nSome of the rocks seen near Mathon were formed some 400 million years ago. According to a local author ‘There can be no finer scenery than this\, anywhere in England\, and the village of Mathon emphasises this with its name which is thought to be derived from an Old English word for treasure or gift’. \nThere are several gentle hills to walk over but two very steep climbs on the return leg. \n£5.00 \nDistance: 6 miles\nDuration: 4 hours\nDifficulty: Hard\nDate: 1 June\nStart time: 10:00 am\nWalk leader: Peter Reynolds\nStart location: West of England Quarry car park\nWest Malvern Road\nWR14 4DH\nGrid reference: SO 766448\nWhat3Words: grocers.pardon.forklift\nFurther details:\nBring refreshments\, we will stop half-way for a few minutes to enjoy the incredible views on the top of Cockshot Hill and soak up the delightful atmosphere.

SUMMARY:Discovering the King’s Thirds (Malvern Walking Festival)
DESCRIPTION:Short of cash in the 1630s\, and at odds with Parliament\, King Charles I introduced many imaginative methods of raising revenue. One of these was the King’s Thirds. The archaeology of the older Shire Ditch may be obvious; much less obvious are the hidden features of the King’s Thirds on the northern Malvern Hills. Discover where the banks and ditches were created in the 1630s and their history. \nExploring the King’s enclosures involves some steep sections. The very steep sections have easier alternatives which will be indicated on the day so that the group reunites. 3 hours are allowed for this short 3-mile walk\, with plenty of time for stops and explanations as we explore this fascinating area. \n£5.00 \nDistance: 3 miles\nDuration: 3 hours\nDifficulty: Hard\nDate: 1 June\nStart time: 2:00 pm\nWalk leader: George Demidowicz\nStart location: Meet at the Interpretation board\, West of England car park\nWR14 4DG\nGrid reference: SO 766448\nWhat3Words: hospitals.contracts.patrolled\nFurther details:\nCar park is Pay and Display

SUMMARY:Exhibition: Day to Night
DESCRIPTION:Art exhibition by Kim Whitby: 3 – 26 June 2025 (see opening times online) \nIn this new exhibition at Malvern Library\, local artist Kim Whitby takes us through her unique creative process – from initial sketches and plans to colour palette inspirations and colour mixing that lead to the final finished piece. We get to see the developmental drawings and paintings for a modern Arts and Crafts-inspired frieze. An Arts and Crafts frieze is a decorative band on a wall often above a picture rail or panelling which was popular during the Arts and Crafts period\, made either from printed wallpaper or painted directly. \nDon’t miss this opportunity! For library opening times\, please visit the Worcestershire County Council website. Admission is free.
