SUMMARY:Falling into Place (15)
DESCRIPTION:Kira and Ian – both in their mid-30s – meet on a winter weekend on the Isle of Skye in the Inner Hebrides. A deep\, almost magical bond develops between the pair\, making everything seem possible. But fate tears them apart again. \nThey both return to London\, unaware that they live so close to one another. Often only a few minutes\, metres and coincidences apart\, Kira and Ian move through the pulsating city; they never meet. SUMMARY:From Storytelling to Art – Exhibition by Graham Langley
DESCRIPTION:From Storytelling to Art – Exhibition by Graham Langley\nOpen 2 – 28 July 2025 during library opening hours (closed Sundays) \nMost of his life Graham has been involved in the performance arts. For 30 years he has travelled Britain and the world as a storyteller. But it is only in the last ten years that he has made something that he calls art\, mainly printmaking\, more recently acrylic\, and largely experimental. Much of his work reflects the British landscape\, especially prehistoric sites which he seeks out on his travels. \nThe exhibition will present a wide range of Graham Langley’s artwork. While much of the work will include colourful monoprints; these often combine the use of acrylic and collage. Work will include the all-black “Uffington White Horse at Night” and the all-white embossed image of the Nebra Sky Disc. \nAbout the artist\nFor twenty years Graham was a drama and dance teacher before an illness caused him to leave teaching. He turned back to his love of folksong and folklore. He started touring schools and libraries with his work and receiving invitations from abroad\, most notably tours in Australia\, New Zealand and Canada as well as Europe and Scandinavia. With Dream On Productions in Argentina he helped initiate English language storytelling in schools throughout South America. \nAs Artistic Director of the Trad Arts Team he established a touring network of popular storytelling evenings called Storytelling Café\, and nurtured young storytellers nationally\, running the annual Young Storyteller of the Year Award for ten years. Much of his recent artwork has narrative elements to them. \nAdmission is free.

SUMMARY:Czech Film Evening
DESCRIPTION:The Hop-Pickers (Starci na chmelu) is a film that has been labelled the first Czech film musical. It was West Side Story that inspired filmmaker Ladislav Rychman and screenwriter Vratislav Blažek to introduce the musical genre to their native Czech cinema. \nA smash hit upon its release in 1964\, the film is set during the annual summer hop harvest and focuses on the lives and loves of the nation’s youth\, assembled into the socialist agricultural brigade to bring the harvest in. \nMade two years before the Dubček liberalisation programme it is interesting to compare with The Beatles and other well-known British groups. \nTickets available from the Malvern Theatres website (film itself to be shown in the Coach House Theatre). \nImage © Kate Wrigglesworth

SUMMARY:By Royal Appointment
DESCRIPTION:The late monarch\, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II\, was famous for her discretion. She never said anything in public that could ruffle even the lightest of feathers. But she had one way of expressing what she really thought – through her sartorial selections. \nBy Royal Appointment is a funny\, poignant and celebratory new play about the kind of power that only a Queen can wield – she charms the world through coats and admonishes her family through a carefully chosen hat. \nStarring national treasure Anne Reid as the Queen and star of stage and screen Caroline Quentin as The Dresser\, the new play is written by Daisy Goodwin\, creator of the hit ITV series Victoria\, and directed by former Artistic Director of Shakespeare’s Globe\, Dominic Dromgoole. \nShow times\nTuesday 1 July 2025\, 7.30pm\nWednesday 2 July 2025\, 2.30pm\nWednesday 2 July 2025\, 7.30pm\nThursday 3 July 2025\, 2.30pm\nThursday 3 July 2025\, 7.30pm\nFriday 4 July 2025\, 7.30pm\nSaturday 5 July 2025\, 2.30pm\nSaturday 5 July 2025\, 7.30pm

SUMMARY:Falling into Place (15)
DESCRIPTION:Kira and Ian – both in their mid-30s – meet on a winter weekend on the Isle of Skye in the Inner Hebrides. Both are in some sense on the run – from their past as well as from the reality of their current lives. \nThe 36 hours they spend together on the island are filled with fun and lightness. They must face their demons before they are ready to really meet. \nCert: 15\nRunning time: 1hr 53mins \nShow times\nFriday 27 June 2025 at 4.30pm\nSunday 29 June 2025 at 6.30pm\nTuesday 1 July 2025 at 4.30pm\nThursday 3 July 2025 at 7.45pm

SUMMARY:The Hills Singers in Concert (Midsummer Malvern)
DESCRIPTION:Directed by Carol Green \nThe Hills Singers perform in Studio One at Malvern Theatres in July with a programme called ‘Rejoice in Summer’. It will be a collection of songs from all ages\, celebrating the natural world\, poetry\, and human relations\, from the exuberant spiritual ‘Every time I feel the Spirit’\, to Mozart’s ‘Veni sancte Spiritus’\, and Handel’s ‘Hallelujah’ Chorus. \nThe concert also includes Malvern Spa Association’s first new piece of Malvern Water Music for the 21st century\, created with the community by Malvern-based composer Liz Dilnot-Johnson. She will create texts and compose three new songs for voice and harp (featuring soprano Felicity Williams and harpist Madeline Kirby) inspired by and telling part of the story of Malvern Water. \nThe proceeds of the concert will be divided between The Hills Singers and the Malvern Spa Association. \nBook by phone on 01684 892277 or via the Malvern Theatres website. \nImage © Kate Wrigglesworth \n
