SUMMARY:Last Tango in Little Grimley & The Fat Lady Sings in Little Grimley
DESCRIPTION:Worcester’s Swan Theatre Amateur Company presents a double bill: Last Tango in Little Grimley & The Fat Lady Sings in Little Grimley\, written by David Tristram and directed by Jason Moseley. \nJoin us to follow the hilarious exploits of the Little Grimley Amateur Dramatics Society. \nLast Tango in Little Grimley – Little Grimley Amateur Dramatic Society is in trouble. The membership has dropped to four – the audiences aren’t much bigger – and if they don’t come up with some rent money soon\, they’re going to be thrown out. “There’s only one thing that sells tickets these days\,” argues Gordon the Chairman: “Sex!” Thus begins the chaotic and hilarious build-up to an evening of extraordinary home-grown drama – an evening the locals would never forget! \nThe Fat Lady Sings in Little Grimley – Gordon\, Margaret\, Joyce and Bernard tackle yet another threat to their survival\, this time in the form of a rival am-dram\, newly-formed in their village\, determined to upstage them with an award-winning musical. SUMMARY:Malvern Hills Literary Loop: Tolkien\, Lewis\, Darwin & Dickens
DESCRIPTION:Legendary fantasy authors JRR Tolkien and CS Lewis were frequent visitors to the Malvern Hills around the middle of the 20th century and the distinctive landscape may have inspired features of Middle Earth and Narnia\, like the Giant’s Cave from the Hobbit and the Victorian gas lamps from The Lion\, the Witch & the Wardrobe. \nA century earlier\, authors Charles Darwin and Charles Dickens visited Malvern for the Water Cure and most of the treatment centres and guest houses still remain. \nThe Malvern Hills Literary Loop starts at the Mr. Tumnus bench in Priory Park and heads up past Knotsford House where Dickens stayed to Lewis’s former school Cherbourg House before pausing at the Lewis Memorial in Rosebank Gardens and following the gas lamps up to St. Ann’s Well cafe. \nAfter admiring the views around North Hill\, the trail descends to Alexandra Rd where Lewis’s close friend & biographer George Sayers lived\, opposite the former home of composer Edward Elgar. \nThe loop then heads up past Montreal House where Darwin stayed during his daughter’s treatment and past Lewis & Tolkien’s favourite pub The Unicorn Inn before passing the Hobbit door and down to Malvern Priory to find Anne Darwin’s grave and potentially the original Narnian gas lamp. \nDates and booking\nThe walks are available on many dates\, often with the option of two start times on the same day. For more information\, including prices\, availability and to book. visit the Malvern Hills Literary Loop: Tolkien\, Lewis\, Darwin & Dickens page on Airbnb.

SUMMARY:Rogue Opera Presents: Carmen Reimagined (Regal Opera Festival)
DESCRIPTION:Join us at The Regal this May for the first show in the inaugural Regal Opera Festival. \nIn this intimate version of Bizet’s Carmen\, scored for four voices with piano accompaniment and a new English script by Director Bronwen Stephens-Harding\, Rogue Opera presents a compact production re-imagined to bring you the essence of the story\, the complexities of the characters and the beauty of the music. \nBizet’s Carmen is more than just a grand spectacle or operatic tragedy. Bizet broke operatic convention by celebrating proletarian and immoral ways of life\, vividly bringing to life Carmen in a way that does justice to her character as a complex\, proud and spirited woman. \nRogue Opera strips away the pomp and pageantry to offer a raw and intimate piece of theatre\, giving an insight into the human emotions at the centre of this story of seduction\, obsession\, rejection and revenge. \nCarmen – Reimagined is presented in thee parts\, divided by 20-minute intervals\, with a total running time of approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes. The opera is sung in French\, with English dialogue.
