SUMMARY:Wild Imagination Winter Trail
DESCRIPTION:Brought to life by artist Sarah Taylor Silverwood in partnership with young people from Pershore\, embark on an outdoor adventure to discover all the fantastical characters. \nSarah worked with youngsters from Pershore to explore Croome’s landscape and plants\, including some of those featured in the Hortus Croomensis\, a guide to Croome’s vast and varied plant collection written by Head Gardener William Dean 200 years ago. Participants responded to the theme by drawing inspiration from nature\, gathering drawings and imagining wild and wonderful characters that were brought to life by the artist. \nJoin the characters on their adventure as they roam across Croome’s gardens in this year’s outdoor winter trail – how many will you discover? \nThis event is free\, but normal admission charges apply for the venue. Booking is not required. \nThis project is generously supported by the Tony Brooks legacy and public funding from Arts Council England and The Elmley Foundation.

SUMMARY:Wild Imagination Exhibition (Animation) with Sarah Taylor Silverwood
DESCRIPTION:The animation is a creative response to Croome’s “Pages from Nature” theme\, inspired by the Hortus Croomensis\, a comprehensive guide to the estate’s abundant and exotic plant collection written by William Dean\, who was Head Gardener at Croome back in 1824. Sarah worked with young participants from the local area to examine some of the flora found in William Dean’s publication that still thrive today. They gathered drawings and captured sounds that the artist transformed into characters that go on a wild adventure across Croome’s gardens. \nField recordings and observations from the participants have been produced into an accompanying soundtrack produced by artist Anna Palmer. \nEntry to the exhibition (animation) is free\, but normal admission charges apply for the venue. Booking is not required. \nThis project is generously supported by the Tony Brooks legacy and public funding from Arts Council England and The Elmley Foundation. \nVisit the National Trust website for more information\, including opening times.

SUMMARY:Armonico: Supersize Polyphony 2
DESCRIPTION:The critically-acclaimed Supersize Polyphony programme of choral music on a colossal scale made Armonico Consort famous across the British Isles. Back with even more daring and adventurous staging in 20 – 40\, and even 60 different voice parts\, Armonico Consort will once again sing 360 degrees around the audience\, totally immersing them in their sound! \nIn a brand new programme\, Armonico features many newly discovered works\, the majority of which are rarely performed and some never recorded. This concert will also include two world premieres by Hollywood composer (and co-founder of Armonico’s education outreach) David Buckley. If you loved the first instalment of Supersize Polyphony\, you simply cannot miss this concert. As an extra treat\, they will bring you Tallis’s Spem in Alium – surely the perfect way to kick off the new year!

SUMMARY:Malvern Hills Cultural Walk
DESCRIPTION:Legendary fantasy authors JRR Tolkien and CS Lewis were frequent visitors to Malvern and the Malvern Hills and the distinctive landscape is thought to have inspired many features of Middle Earth and Narnia\, including the Giant’s Cave from The Hobbit and the Victorian gas lamps from The Lion\, the Witch & the Wardrobe. \nYou’ll choose between two routes\, the Tolkien Trail & the Lewis Loop\, both of which are outlined below. \nThe Tolkien Trail follows the main ridge south from the Wyche Cutting\, over several summits to the Giant’s Cave\, which is said to have inspired Tolkien’s first book\, The Hobbit. The trail then returns north\, with optional stops at the Malvern Hills Hotel and/or the Kettle Sings Cafe before ending where it began. \nThe Lewis Loop begins in Priory Park in Great Malvern and heads past Malvern College and Cherbourg House\, where Lewis went to school\, before pausing at the Lewis Memorial in Rosebank Gardens. Next it follows Narnia’s gas lamps up Happy Valley past St. Ann’s Well Cafe to the summit of North Hill before dropping down to Alexandra Road in Malvern Link\, where Lewis’s biographer\, George Sayer\, and composer Sir Edward Elgar lived. After passing Lewis and Tolkien’s favourite pub\, The Unicorn Inn on Belle Vue Terrace\, the loop ends at Great Malvern Priory\, home to what’s believed to be the original gas lamp. \nWhichever walk you choose\, you’ll hear tales of literary legends whilst savouring the most stunning views in the West Midlands. \nDates and booking\nThe walks are available on many dates\, often with the option of two start times on the same day.
For more information\, including prices\, availability and to book. visit the Malvern Hills Cultural Walks page on Airbnb.
