SUMMARY:Pages from Nature: Walk through the Pleasure Grounds
DESCRIPTION:Purchase a booklet inspired by the 1824 guidebook to Croome\, the Hortus Croomensis\, to explore the garden. Discover the history behind the landscape design; take time to sketch in the booklet\, pause along the way to appreciate the scents in the special scent boxes – can you guess what they are? Delve into quotes from the two-hundred-year-old text to feel transported back two centuries. \nA copy of the booklet costs £3 and the route is approximately 2 miles long (on hard-surface paths). Booking is not needed\, but normal admission charges apply. \nVisit the website for Croome’s opening hours and further information.

SUMMARY:Wild Imagination Exhibition (Animation) with Sarah Taylor Silverwood
DESCRIPTION:The animation is a creative response to Croome’s “Pages from Nature” theme\, inspired by the Hortus Croomensis\, a comprehensive guide to the estate’s abundant and exotic plant collection written by William Dean\, who was Head Gardener at Croome back in 1824. Sarah worked with young participants from the local area to examine some of the flora found in William Dean’s publication that still thrive today. They gathered drawings and captured sounds that the artist transformed into characters that go on a wild adventure across Croome’s gardens. \nField recordings and observations from the participants have been produced into an accompanying soundtrack produced by artist Anna Palmer. \nEntry to the exhibition (animation) is free\, but normal admission charges apply for the venue. Booking is not required. \nThis project is generously supported by the Tony Brooks legacy and public funding from Arts Council England and The Elmley Foundation. \nVisit the National Trust website for more information\, including opening times.

SUMMARY:Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain: 40 Years
DESCRIPTION:Founded four decades go as the antidote to mindless pop\, egocentric rock\, and the indulgent bluster of the music business\, the musicians of the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain donned black tuxedos and started to give ‘concerts’ in tiny rooms above old pubs. \nThere are no drums\, pianos\, backing tracks\, guitars\, or banjos\, and nor are there any pitch shifters or electronic trickery – just an astonishing revelation of the rich palette of orchestration provided by ukuleles and a whole range of voices in a collision of post-punk performance and old classics.

SUMMARY:NT Live: The Importance of Being Earnest (Pre-Recorded Broadcast)
DESCRIPTION:A production of Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of being Earnest from the National Theatre\, directed by Max Webster. \nThree-time Olivier Award-winner Sharon D Clarke is joined by Ncuti Gatwa (star of Doctor Who and Sex Education) in this joyful reimagining of Oscar Wilde’s most celebrated comedy. \nWhile assuming the role of a dutiful guardian in the country\, Jack lets loose in town under a false identity. Meanwhile\, his friend Algy adopts a similar facade. Hoping to impress two eligible ladies\, the gentlemen find themselves caught in a web of lies they must carefully navigate. \nMax Webster\, whose previous work includes Life of Pi\, directs this hilarious story of identity\, impersonation and romance\, filmed live from the National Theatre in London for broadcast in cinemas.

SUMMARY:An Evening with Jennings
DESCRIPTION:Travel back in time to 1948 and join the Colwall Players as they recreate two of the original BBC radio plays by Anthony Buckeridge all about Jennings and Darbishire and their chums at Linbury Court Preparatory School. \nHow will new boy Jennings avoid a bashing up from Temple and how can Darbishire disguising himself as Edward G Robinson possibly help? How could a missing glove lead to a search party tramping across the Sussex Downs for someone who isn’t really missing? And does Mr Wilkins really hand out 150 million lines\nto any boy who hasn’t done his Latin prep? \nAll this and more will be revealed as we take you into our BBC recording studio and the wonderful world of Jennings. \nAs if that isn’t enough we’re going to give you a genuine school dinner to keep you going in between the two plays. It’ll be wizard muck\, we promise. (And don’t tell Mr Carter but we’ll even have a bar!) \nSo come along for an Evening with Jennings – frantic bishes and super-rare wheezes guaranteed. \nShow times\nThursday 20 February 2025\, 7.30pm\nFriday 21 February 2025\, 7.30pm\nSaturday 22 February 2025\, 7.30pm \nTickets: £15 (£10 for under 16s) – available from Ticketsource online or on 0333 666 3366

SUMMARY:Jack Dee: Small World
DESCRIPTION:Culture wars\, the environment\, British foreign policy and social justice: these are just a few examples of the topics that Jack spectacularly fails to address (or even mention for that matter) in his brand new show\, Small World. Instead\, for reasons known only to him\, he doubles down on his fascination with the meaningless small things of life including Zoom protocol\, what’s new in the world of radiators and the worst careers advice office in the world. \nJoin Jack as he steers you through his varied life and career with his usual charm and well-known gift for talking absolute rubbish on any given subject. \nAge restriction: strictly 14 and above

SUMMARY:Basket Weaving Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Tutors Helen and Mollie\, who share a love of basketry and natural materials\, can’t wait to pass on their knowledge and passion to you in this immersive basketry retreat at Hellens. \nSpending one day each with Helen Munday (wondersofwillow.co.uk) and Mollie McMillen (molliemcmillen.co.uk)\, you will be supported in small groups to create two unique baskets\, in beautiful surroundings. \nWhether you’re new to weaving with willow or already have some experience of the craft\, you’ll be sure to enjoy creating your own woven handbag or shoulder bag with Helen\, who will spend a day guiding you through each stage of the process\, supporting you to create a basket you will be proud of. There will be a choice of colourful willow varieties and different materials for the straps\, allowing you to make a unique woven bag. A small additional charge will be made for the strap with a choice of leather\, webbing or cork available. \nThe day with Mollie will introduce you to the world of weaving with soft plant materials and tree barks. With plenty of scope for exploration and experimentation\, you will have a wonderful selection of materials to work with\, hand-harvested by Mollie from her garden and local landscape. Included will be discussion about sustainable harvesting techniques\, storage and preparation of materials\, giving you scope to start thinking about your own harvesting possibilities where you live\, for future basket making. You will be taught a number of different weaving and basketry skills\, such as twining\, plaiting and cordage making and be introduced to a variety of techniques to create bases and borders. The shape and style of your basket will be unique to you and reflect how your hands and thoughts interact with the materials. \nResidential fee and non-residential fee differ: see website for details.
