SUMMARY:The Return (15) PREVIEW (Borderlines Film Festival)
DESCRIPTION:DIRECTOR: Uberto Pasolini\nSTARRING: Ralph Fiennes\, Juliette Binoche\, Charlie Plummer\nUK/ITALY/GREECE/FRANCE\, 2024\,\n1 HOUR 56 MINUTES\,\nENGLISH \nA retelling of Odysseus’ (Ralph Fiennes) return to Ithaca pivots on the hero’s inner state of being. \nOdysseus’s homecoming from 20 years of war and adventure is far from peaceful. Haggard and drained\, he’s a shadow of his former wily self. His wife\, Penelope (Juliette Binoche) is held prisoner by suitors vying to be king and his son faces death at their hands. To win back his family\, his kingdom and his self-respect\, Odysseus must rediscover his strength. \nNo Cyclops or Sirens here\, the performances of Fiennes and Binoche are key\, enhanced by ravishing cinematography that renders the film simply gorgeous to look at. \nPreview courtesy of Modern Films \nShow Times\n*Film starts at advertised time*\nWednesday 12th March at 7.15pm\nThursday 13th March at 7.15pm\nVenue: Cinema

Delivering coal to the church laundry he sees the terrified girls for himself and is reminded of his own unmarried mother and boyhood. \nHis knowledge represents a threat to the church sister who is beautifully played as a dead-eyed tyrant by Emily Watson. \nAn absorbing committed drama. \nShow times\nThursday 13 March 2025\, 7.30pm

SUMMARY:Red Path (18) PREVIEW (Borderlines Film Festival)
DESCRIPTION:DIRECTOR: Lotfi Achour\nSTARRING: Ali Helali\, Yassine Samouni\, Wided Dabebi\, Jemii Lamari\,\nTUNISIA/FRANCE/BELGIUM/POLAND/SAUDI ARABIA/QATAR\, 2024\,\n1 HOUR 37 MINUTES\,\nARABIC + ENGLISH SUBTITLES \nSet in the isolation of the vast Tunisian mountains\, this dreamlike journey probes the wounded psyche of a young shepherd. \nWhen a group of jihadists set upon two young shepherds\, killing one of them\, Achraf\, 13\, is forced to bring the head of his cousin Nizar to the family as a macabre message. Based on a real murder during the 2015 Tunisian unrest\, the story foregrounds Achraf’s point of view\, from his playful interaction with his cousin\, through the gut-churning terror of the attack\, to his mounting inner anxiety as he faces his family’s grief and dilemma. \nWith stunning cinematography\, the film delves deep into the psychological impact of violence on children\, portraying the stark reality of rural Tunisia while contrasting it with more introspective\, ethereal moments. \nPreview courtesy of Sovereign Film Distribution \nShow Times\n*Film starts at advertised time*\nSunday 9th March at 4.15pm\nThursday 13th March at 7.30pm\nVenue: Forum Theatre

SUMMARY:Exhibition: Great Malvern Priory Development Project - Light and Space
DESCRIPTION:Over a period of several years\, plans have been developed to improve the visitor and community experience at Great Malvern Priory in two ways. The first aim is to make the building more accessible on a practical level\, whilst the second is to go further in narrating the story of the life of the Priory\, its place in the town and its treasures – all in a vibrant and relevant way. \nThe Priory has a range of exciting plans as part of a large-scale development project. An application is being made to the National Heritage Lottery Fund\, which will help to secure the future of Great Malvern Priory and remove it from the Heritage At Risk Register. \nVisit the Priory between 14 and 23 March 2025 during normal opening hours to see an exhibition detailing the plans. If you can’t visit in person\, there’s an opportunity to view the exhibition online. There’s also a questionnaire to complete if you wish.

SUMMARY:Murdering the Devil (12A) (Borderlines Film Festival)
DESCRIPTION:Director: Ester Krumbachová\nStarring: Jiřina Bohdalová\, Vladimír Menšík\nCzechoslovakia\, 1970\, 1 hour 15 minutes\, Czech + English subtitles \nLong forgotten\, recently restored\, Ester Krumbachová’s directorial debut is an exuberant\, biting feminist satire. \nThe Czech production and costume designer\, artist and screenwriter offers viewers as delicious a feast for the senses as her protagonist prepares for her insatiable guest\, Mr Bohouš Čert (čert is the Czech word for devil). \nWhile Krumbachová collaborated on Czechoslovak New Wave films such as Věra Chytilová’s Daisies\, here everything that fascinated her comes together. Elaborate props\, costumes and sets help characterise two archetypal characters in a battle of the sexes. Weaving together motifs from fairy tales\, legends and other folk narratives\, the film plays with audience expectations\, as well as gender stereotypes. \nIt’s a gas. \nShow times\n*Film starts at advertised time*\nFriday 14th March at 5pm\nVenue: Studio One

SUMMARY:Two to One (15) PREVIEW (Borderlines Film Festival)
DESCRIPTION:DIRECTOR: Natja Brunckhorst\nSTARRING: Sandra Hüller\, Max Riemelt\, Ronald Zehrfeld\nGERMANY\, 2024\,\n1 HOUR 56 MINUTES\,\nGERMAN/FRENCH + ENGLISH SUBTITLES \nA heist comedy set in East Germany 1990\, the final hot summer before reunification\, hinges on the tiny six-day exchange window before the Ostmark becomes obsolete. \nFree-spirited Maren (Sandra Hüller)\, her partner Robert and friend Volker happen upon millions of soon-to-be-worthless East German banknotes and take what they can carry. \nShot among some surviving gems of socialist modern architecture and cast exclusively with actors from the former East Germany\, the nub of the story rests on how the members of a close-knit socialist community react to the sudden untold wealth within their grasp. Solidarity confronts greed in a resolution that owes much to a Robin Hood dynamic. \nPreview courtesy of Tull Stories \nShow Times\n*Film starts at advertised time*\nThursday 13th March at 4.15pm – FORUM\nFriday 14th March at 7pm – STUDIO ONE

DESCRIPTION:Director: Gia Coppola\nStarring: Pamela Anderson\, Jamie Lee Curtis\, Brenda Song\, Kiernan Shipka\nUS\, 2025\, 1 hour 28 minutes\, English\nAD Audio description available\nDS Descriptive subtitles: Friday 14th March at 7.15pm \nPamela Anderson stars as a seasoned showgirl in the final days of a legendary Vegas floor show. \nWith routines and décor showing signs of age\, Le Razzle Dazzle announces that it is about to close. Shelly\, one of their most experienced dancers\, has no back up. She needs to find work\, reconnect with her estranged daughter\, and make ends meet. Shelly relies on her friends: two younger dancers\, Marianne and Jodie\, and cocktail waitress and gambling addict\, Annette (a wonderful turn from Jamie Lee Curtis). What lies ahead? SUMMARY:Double Bill: Smith & Brewer and The 4 of Us (Regal Folk Festival)
DESCRIPTION:Join us at The Regal in March for this spectacular double bill night of music with Smith & Brewer and The 4 Of Us. \nSmith & Brewer\nBen Smith and Jimmy Brewer originally met at an event organised by Joan Armatrading for the acts she had chosen to support her on her 2015 tour. Although they originally planned simply to write together\, they soon came to see that their different guitar playing styles and voices complemented each other. They began performing together regularly after their inaugural gig supporting Joan Armatrading in front of a thousand-strong crowd\, and since then the duo has played together throughout the UK\, toured with 10cc\, Ralph McTell\, Jools Holland and Fairport Convention. \nThe 4 Of Us\nAs one of the most acclaimed bands in Ireland\, The 4 Of Us have been a steadfast part of Irish music history for over three decades years. Blending contemporary roots with rock\, the award-winning band was established by brothers Brendan and Declan Murphy from the border town of Newry in Northern Ireland. Their truly unique sound has won them a large and loyal fan-base and an enviable catalogue of timeless songs\, including six Top 20 Irish charting albums and several hit singles. Regulars on Irish radio playlists\, their work has also been featured widely on American\, UK and Irish TV soundtracks.

DESCRIPTION:Legendary fantasy authors JRR Tolkien and CS Lewis were frequent visitors to the Malvern Hills around the middle of the 20th century and the distinctive landscape may have inspired features of Middle Earth and Narnia\, like the Giant’s Cave from the Hobbit and the Victorian gas lamps from The Lion\, the Witch & the Wardrobe. \nA century earlier\, authors Charles Darwin and Charles Dickens visited Malvern for the Water Cure and most of the treatment centres and guest houses still remain. \nThe Malvern Hills Literary Loop starts at the Mr. Tumnus bench in Priory Park and heads up past Knotsford House where Dickens stayed to Lewis’s former school Cherbourg House before pausing at the Lewis Memorial in Rosebank Gardens and following the gas lamps up to St. Ann’s Well cafe. \nAfter admiring the views around North Hill\, the trail descends to Alexandra Rd where Lewis’s close friend & biographer George Sayers lived\, opposite the former home of composer Edward Elgar. \nThe loop then heads up past Montreal House where Darwin stayed during his daughter’s treatment and past Lewis & Tolkien’s favourite pub The Unicorn Inn before passing the Hobbit door and down to Malvern Priory to find Anne Darwin’s grave and potentially the original Narnian gas lamp. \nDates and booking\nThe walks are available on many dates\, often with the option of two start times on the same day. DESCRIPTION:Director: Julio Bracho\nStarring: Ninón Sevilla\, Armando Silvestre\, Carlos Lopez Moctezuma\, Andrea Palma\nMexico\, 1954\, 1 hour 31 minutes\, Spanish + English subtitles \nErotic torments and class conflicts come to a head in Julio Bracho’s formally daring masterpiece\, one of the most important Mexican melodramas of the decade. \n1954’s Llévame en tus Brazos follows a fisherman’s daughter (Ninón Sevilla) through a nightmare of exploitation and misery. SUMMARY:Talk: Laura Knight's Theatre - Performance\, People and Place
DESCRIPTION:The Dame Laura Knight Society presents an illustrated talk by Professor Emeritus Claire Cochrane. \nLaura Knight’s extraordinarily capacious concept of theatre led to the creation of art that tried to capture not only the diversity of different forms of performance\, but also the working environments of where and how performance is made. In exploring examples of that diversity\, this talk will also focus on the key personalities who were instrumental in giving Knight access — in particular Sir Barry Jackson\, her friend for over five decades and the founder of the Birmingham Repertory Company and the Malvern Festival. \nTickets: £7 (members) / £10 (non-members) on the door \nRefreshments will be available at the talk.

SUMMARY:Mother Vera (15) PREVIEW (Borderlines Film Festival)
DESCRIPTION:DIRECTOR: Cécile Embleton\, Alys Tomlinson\nUK\, 2024\,\n1 HOUR 31 MINUTES\,\nBELARUSIAN/FRENCH/ENGLISH + ENGLISH SUBTITLES \nThis visually stunning documentary about an Orthodox nun\, filmed largely in black and white\, gradually overturns our preconceptions. \nWe first encounter Vera in the hidden Belarusian monastery where she has sought refuge from her precarious past for twenty years. Her face\, set off by her austere black garb\, is strikingly ageless and timeless. She has an incredible affinity with horses. But we learn that she faces deep inner conflict. Now\, she must confront her past and trust her instincts to find the liberation she desires. \nEmbleton and Tomlinson’s extraordinary documentary feature debut lends Vera the space to tell her story of redemption\, as she embarks on a spiritual journey of self-realisation and acceptance. \n“this transfixingly beautiful film is …a must for festivals…” Jonathan Romney\, Screen Daily \nGrierson Award for Best Documentary\, BFI London Film Festival 2024 \nPreview courtesy of Indox \nShow Times\n*Film starts at advertised time*[NL[Wednesday 12th March at 4pm – CINEMA\nSaturday 15th March at 4.30pm – STUDIO ONE

SUMMARY:The Last Showgirl (15) (Preview) (Borderlines Film Festival)
Coppola offers up a mellowed Las Vegas captured on 16mm film and a tender portrait of a vulnerable\, lively\, ingenuous woman\, a character traditionally relegated to a faceless chorus line. \nShow times\n*Film starts at advertised time*\nFriday 14th March at 7.15pm (with Descriptive Subtitles)\nSaturday 15th March at 4.45pm\nVenue: Cinema

SUMMARY:Motherboard (15) PREVIEW (Borderlines Film Festival)
DESCRIPTION:DIRECTOR: Victoria Mapplebeck\nSTARRING: Victoria Mapplebeck\, Jim Mapplebeck\nUK\, 2024\,\n1 HOUR 30 MINUTES\,\nENGLISH \nFinding herself single\, pregnant\, and broke at 38\, BAFTA award-winning director Victoria Mapplebeck turned the camera on herself. \nRecording hundreds of hours of footage through 20 years\, she documents her own life and that of her son Jim\, from the thumbsup he gave her during her first scan\, to his first day at college. Intimate and engagingly frank\, she records moments of sheer joy: holidays\, birthdays\, Jim’s love of singing and dancing as he grows into an articulate and funny individual. But there’s adversity to navigate too: breast cancer\, the pandemic\, absent fathers\, late teens and the pitfalls they bring. \nThis celebration of messy lives and solo motherhood is proof that epic journeys can begin and end at home. \nPreview courtesy of Tull Stories \nShow Times\n*Film starts at advertised time*\nMonday 10th March at 4pm – FORUM\nSaturday 15th March at 7pm – STUDIO ONE
